Is the value there?

Whilst comparatively shopping I go to thinking about this...

A lot of companies offer SOME KIND of warranty on their firearms. So far, I have only seen a lifetime warranty with Sig Sauer. Sig ranges from 600 to over 1000$.

Everyone else offers a one year to 5 year warranty. Those firearms are somewhere in the 400-600$ range.

Sig offers the CPO program, which comes with a 1 year warranty and a practically new firearm. These guns are marked down between 100-400$ a piece.

My question is this..... With these warranties, is anyone seeing the value out of them? If the 300-500$ price difference worth just that, or is buying a new Sig with the factory lifetime warranty worth it?

So the value of buying new is better than the price difference in CPO? I have heard about Sig's getting repaired even when purchased through CPO after a year, I'm guessing this isn't something I can count on...

I have a few Sig's and have never had any issues at all from any of them. I carry one daily, and plan to buy at least 3 a year for the next few years. I think Sig is one of the absolute best manufacturers there are out there. I do own other handguns and like them all but I must admit I am a Sig Addict!

SIG's cost more because they are products of superior engineering and construction. Because of that, the company can afford a lifetime warranty...because it will seldom have to put $$$ out backing it up....they just don't break/go bad like most other guns.

IMHO...you always get what you pay for...and you either pay up front or on the back end... your choice.

Ok here is something funny to do with the Sig warranty. When I bought my p250 the guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted to buy their one year extended warranty. Having no clue what Sigs warranty was, since it was my first, I said yes. Got home was thumbing through the manual, l couldn't stop laughing when I realized I paid for an extended warranty that I will never need to use.

Smith and Wesson will warrant for life all their M&P pistols, and the shield. Not sure about their revolvers, don't own a newer one. The price range on these guns are $450-$650 on average. The specialty pistols may be more. I have gotten magazines, recoil rod and spring assemblies, magazine floor plates absolutely free, no charge for postage, nothing. I love my Sigs but with S&W it don't get any better than this.

"or" was the key word, you asked about warranty.

sig does what is required when a sig is rma'd or traded back in by various l e agencies, sometimes doing nothing & making it a cpo.

fwiw:
i had a 220 cpo/red box that had been returned by said agency in april 'xx, never issued & returned to sig, who placed it in a red box, returned to a vendor, where i bought it as a cpo.

I'm fighting myself over getting a new p229, CPo 229 or new p2022. I have also looked at cz but for some reason I am partial to Sig's higher-than-average bore axis. Apparently this makes me abnormal in the handgun world....... Cz has a 5 year warranty and their guns run from 450-700.

Sig has lifetime service and a used 1911 C3 proved that to me.
Another lifetime with a top reputation is Springfield.
If you wring out a CPO and have no issues for a year, then likely you won't for the next 10 years give or take a decade. The 229 is a proven platform. My 17 year old is humming along.

You can get an SP2022 for well under $600 and still get a lifetime warranty, and the best firearm for the money.

IMO high bore axis is way overblown as far as any problems with it.

If you have more potential for muzzle flip because of it you have less recoil going straight back to you. In any case I can manage my grip so it is a non issue and I am back on target very quickly. If someone has poor grip technique it can be more of a problem such as the "teacup" grip that I still see a lot or some variation there of. I shoot my SIGs much better than my Son's CZ SP01 and that includes my SP2022. IMO by far the most important shot is your first shot. I learned that a long time ago hunting with a single shot rifle and shotgun LOL.

BTW I thought Glocks had a lifetime warranty also??

I have held and shot a 229 but not a 2022. I kind of want to get the 229 more but it is expensive. That is my dillema

-More like in the $430 + or - range in most areas. Pay any more, even in these times, and you are being gouged. Run the other way FAST!

I purchased an SP2022 (9mm) in October, have put around 1500 rounds through it so far with NO misfires and absolutely LOVE it! It is well made, super easy to clean and maintain and looks great. Best of all, it only weighs 1.76 LBS and feels balanced and comfortable in my hands.

It shoots highly accurately up to the range limits where I shoot, which in my case is 25 yards (or meters maybe, the range doesn't know for sure which it is).

You can't go wrong with it, it is an excellent value for the money.
It is available in both 9mm and .40 calibers.

I carry a full size Sig P 226 9mm because I like a full size service pistol. There are more advantages with a full size pistol than there are disadvantages.

I have several Sig's... and I have never had an issue with any of them. If it were me, I would get new with the lifetime warranty.

Th le ONLY gun I own is a full size 250. I like it just fine. I want to go da/sa for carry though. I used to shoot my grandads colt 1911 so sa trigger is easy. I want a safe carry that can fire without cocked and locked with quick follow-ups
