| newb question regarding P2022 and night sights...
Hi all -- I just picked up my first handgun the other day, a Sig P2022 in .40S&W. I have been a gun owner basically forever, but not familiar at all with handguns. That being said, my SigPro has what they are calling "contrast" sights, and I have seen some discuss that older models had "night sights" on them. My guess is that this means the sights are "luminous" in some way; can someone tell me A) the advantages of "night sights" vs. the now-stock "contrast" sights if I can change out the sights on my gun to "night sights" if I so choseC) if/when/under what circumstance that might be something I'd want to consider And finally, a related question -- what about laser sights? The Sig CrimsonTrace laser grip thing seems interesting, but expensive at 2/3 the cost of the gun itself. Is there a specific circumstance, or a specific reason, that someone (like myself, who plans to conceal carry this gun at times, and have it sitting in my nightstand for home defense at other times) might really want to consider the laser sights (or the night sights)? Please forgive these amateur-ish questions; I can come up with some of my own answers for these questions, but they'd be speculative/un-informed answers. I would like to hear some ideas from those with much more experience than I... Thank you, Steve |

The sp2022 comes in both standard and night sights. The night sights used are meprolights that sig calls sig sights. They look standard contrast during the day and light up green during the night without being charged. The advantage would be better target acquisition during the night. I have the sig sights myself. I am not a fan of lasers at all honestly, you can either get a laser to attach to your picatinny rail or those crapson trace lasers you speak of. Hope this helps, Lucas |

Lucas -- it does help. Thank you. What you said about the "night sights" is intriguing; look "standard" during the day, but glow green at night, with NO charging? Wow. Can I retrofit my P2022 with these "meprolight" sights? If so, is it a DIY project, or does it take a gunsmith? As for laser -- you are not a fan. That's fair. Maybe I should not be, either. Your reason? Steve |

I looked them up, based on your info, Lucas. Are these the ones? Kimber America > Products It says, under "compatibility," this: Compatibility: Sig Sauer P-series pistols chambered in .40 or .45 ACP with #6 front and #8 factory rear sights Does the current model, stock P2022 have a #6 front sight, and #8 rear sight? Thanks, Steve |

You can pick them up here, Meprolight Tru-Dot Tritium Night Sights - SIG #6/#8 - Top Gun Supply Might be able to find them cheaper if you shop around. I would recommend getting a gunsmith to do it because A- its their profession and B- you need a few hundred dollar tool to put it on yourself. I am personally not a fan of the lasers because I trust my own shooter skill before a piece of technology that could have a battery fail. You only get good with what you train with. Last time I checked shooter skill doesn't have technological failures. To each their own. If you get night sights I would recommend getting green/green as your eye naturally distinguishes green better over all colors. Fact! Last edited by SauerSig; 01-22-2013 at 12:47 PM. |

Perfect. Thanks Lucas! I will need to think on these things. I best get used to my gun, and become proficient, AND gain more knowledge overall, before going any further. Your info advances my knowledge. I appreciate it. Steve |
