| New to me P290
Recently sold a Kahr TP9 that I picked up used on a whim Just wasn't the right gun for me. Shot fairly well but had a few issues & the grip was extremely small. Long story short negotiated a return to the place I bought it from and picked up a used P290. Read a few reviews on them and everything sounded good. Took it to the local indoor range today to shoot it for the first time. Turns out they are out of ammo. LOL. Everywhere in town is out of 9mm. Cabelas, Sheels, WallyMarty, Sportsmans wharehouse, ect. Gonna start calling all the small shops to see what's out there. Sheesh. I feel like a kid at Christmas who is allowed to open but can't play with his toys. HAHA. I have a few hundred rounds at home but don't want to shoot out of much until I can get some more. Gonna look online today. Anyway, the one I got has a 25A00xxxx serial number. I gather that means it is an early model, original frame, no RS capability. Figure I'll take it to the range and fire some rounds through it. See how it does and then send it in for the RS upgrade. Has anyone who has done the upgrade have an idea on the cost if any or was it done on the new models at no charge when the newer RS models came out? I bought an extra 8rnd mag for it and it seems to require a solid effort to seat in the mag well. The other two it came with (one 6 rnd and one 8 rnd) not so much. The interesting thing is if I take off the extended butt place it seats more easily. Do they break in over time? |

you're putting 2 extra rds in the mag. seating has to now overcome/compress the mag spring to seat/lock in the mag-well. in many auto's, after getting that last rd in the mag it takes a firm smack on the heel of the hand to seat the mag. |

6 rnd that came with it 8 rnd that came with it 8 rnd that I just bought The first two click in nice and easy. The new one takes a hard positive bottom smack and is less likely to stay put. I might load it up with ammo and let is sit for a few days and see if that helps?

Very helpful and answered all my questions Cost for RS upgrade is $99 Shipping both ways is $55 via Fed-Ex prepaid She said to send it in with the mag that is giving me the problems and they will look at it when they do the RS upgrade. She also said to take it to the range and see if it has the light strike issue and if so email her and they will add that to the list when they get it. Coolio...

Took It to the ranger today. Shot 50 rounds and everything is all good. All fed perfect, no feeding problems, no light strikes, rack, click, bang, and it even shot nice groups (for me anyway). Happy with it!! Last edited by Gangplank; 01-24-2013 at 05:20 AM. |
