I've bought used Sigs on GunBroker (you have to be patient, but deals do eventually present themselves), and from the Classifieds on SigForum. I've also purchased a CPO from my LGS.

In addition to GunBroker, I browse other auction sites such as GunsAmerica and GunsInternational, but have never purchased anything through them.

There are lots of online retailers for used Sigs as well, such as Osage County Guns, Summit Gun Broker, Bud's, etc.

Gig mine at cabelas. If you keep an eye out for the "employee pricing" coupon it applies to used guns. They also will haggle 25-50 off the marked price. Never the cheapest place to get them but they guarantee they will fire & cycle or else they'll pay to fix it.

I love buying them from ex cops... they have no rounds thru em, just holster wear that SIG will refinish for $99! LOL

Picked mine up from Bud's Gun shop.

ronin2-

Be careful when you say that...in Michigan, it seems the departments up here fire the shit out of theirs--I've seen some pretty beat up guns with rail wear that would make you weep tears of sadness.

But I live in occupied territory the PRK (Peoples Republic of Kalifornia) and most cops are not weapons enthusiasts. Especially any of them who would sell a SIG. I do know how to properly inspect a SIG for wear prior to purchase. thanks

+1 on Bud's Gun Shop. I've purchased three firearms from Bud's and had a pleasurable experience every time. I haven't bought used but they usually have certified pre-owned SIG's.

We tend to get some use out of SIG's in Michigan. LOL. Seriously, I've seen some guns that have been beat to shit and in awful condition--at the point where I do not think a refurb from SIG could help. Again, it would probably make you cry.

I'll check out Bud's, thanks guys!

Closs - I use this screen name on every message board I belong to. I made it back 14 or 15 years ago when I had a 94 Z28 and just stuck with it. 5 Camaros later, I have moved on to Corvettes. The ZL1 is a hot car, congrats on the new ride!

I made several trades and also got my 229 locally from a listing on armslist.com.
Here in middle America it works well.
I also got a Springer that I wanted for years from a seller in Florida. Did the FFL ship and worked just fine.
Locally you can pull the slide and take a good look.

FrankenSig my refurb P229 9mm from Bud's

OK, I got my P229 9mm today. Now I won't say “I couldn't be happier” but it's pretty close.
After shopping around for what seemed like way too long I bought what was listed on Bud's simply as

SIGARMS P229 9MM Factory Refurb EXCELLENT COND model UDE2299T1

with very little other information.

This was one of only a few available refurbs I could find. I decided to get it before my wife changed her mind and was also worried that if I spent my usual amount of time to research what features it had, it might be gone. I knew I was saving money over a new P229 and also realized getting everything on my wish list wasn't going to happen.

For some reason I was expecting to be disappointed. The only things I was sure I was getting was a refurb P229 in 9 mm.

What I got was a Sig in excellent condition. There are no obvious signs of wear, but one very visible flaw (see photo.)

I don't know if this was an oversight or not, and it can easily be fixed. It was so obvious that I was more surprised to see it. This was in no means a deal breaker. I figured if there had to be any problem, this had to be the easiest and cheapest to fix. It's just so damn obvious. I'll call Sig tomorrow to see if they'll be willing to send me a replacement screw, if not I'm sure I'll be ordering a parts kit at some point and it looks like they include screws as part of the kit.

Other details on what I received are:

What appears to be a P229 9 mm in two tone (black anodized frame) and stainless slide with diamond plate etching. The diamond plate slide probably wouldn't have been my first pick, but it does look a lot nicer in person and it's beginning to grow on me.

The newer version standard (dot the i?) Sig contrast sights. (I had hoped for Sig night sights oh well.)
(1) 13 round mag (better than 10 cuz it's more.. and legal in Utah)
(1) 15 round mag (hey.. I was happy I got a 2nd mag at all but even more!)
One red Sig cardboard box (sure, a hard case would have been nice)
One standard cable style lock and keys (if one life is saved from all of these that were sent......)

At this point I am calling my P229 FrankenSig. The refurb date on box is Oct 31, 2012. Because so many things seem to have been pieced together, and yet don't quite match up with anything I can see listed on Sig's web site, and also taking the ugly screw into account, I think the name fits. I'm very happy with it at this point. Others may find fault in how it was purchased, but I'll consider myself lucky and keep it. Now I just need to get to the range. I may learn to like the sights. I'll try to update later.

Just a quick update. Called Sig today and they're sending out a replacement screw (or 2 did he say?) free of charge. I don't think I would have been too upset if they wouldn't do this, but was glad they were so quick to offer. I'll take em.

Also got to the range today and was very happy with the results. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a CPO Sig to anyone that is thinking of going that route.
