There were a lot of P220s made with stainless slides and internal extractor.

It was a transition period between the folded-stamped slide and the introduction of the short external extractor.

They are good guns. I had a P220ST once like that which was built on the P220 Sport frame (unique rail that only worked with the P220 Sport compensator).

I have a stainless slide P220 with the internal extractor. Nice gun. Like GBIA said, there's lots of them.

There were some P220s with stainless steel slides that had problems with their internal extractor. I believe Gray Guns came out with a solution. Do you know which P220s they were?

What problems? Now I have found two.....A problem that can be fixed? Or a serious issue?

Should I just stick with carbon slide in my search? Would really like a stainless for carry.

I don't know which ones it was.
I do remember SIG correcting the issue.

ruskie, I wouldn't worry at all about it. IF it has the issue, it can be corrected.

Hm. Well, I am a bit leary of problematic pistols. I trust the older style, so will probably atick with it. Just sucks they cannot make a railless stainless 220 woth external extractor. Just a nitron, plain pistol.

I really doubt you will have a problem.
Chances are, after all these years, it has already been corrected.

I believe SIG did come up with their own replacement extractor, but Grayguns did, too. Here's a link but it doesn't mention which models other than the X-5.

I didn't mean to cause any alarm. I believe the problem was with the material the extractor was made from that affected reliability or possible breakage, and it was only with some models and not pervasive. But as GoneBIA said if a gun had had any issues it has probably already been fixed as SIG took responsibility for the problem and came out with a better replacement extractor.

Well, found a better deal on a late 90s p220. Probably going that direction. I don't hear a lot about problems with the classic design. So, probably going that way. Still have to sell the .40 p226 first though.
