Sirsigalot here.......
I never do anything on my Sigs past a regular filled strip and clean.
Some will suggest not to remove the firing pin being its not as easy as most gun and it being a bear take out. The way I see it when the time comes for a detailed filed strip and service its going back to the boys in blue.

It is not necessary to remove the firing pin to clean the firing pin chamber. You can spray Gun Scrubber, carburetor cleaner or dry cleaning fluid into the small opening in the breech that the firing pin comes through, and let the fluid run out the back of the slide.

You did not say which slide you have and what kind of pin retains the firing pin. The most difficult retaining pin to remove is the solid FPPP (firing pin positioning pin). It usually is a force fit in the left side of the pistol where the FPPP is 1/8" in diameter and has raised splines. The right end of the FPPP is smooth and usually 3mm.

A way has to be found to move the firing pin forward slightly before removing or re-installing the FPPP. With the firing pin forward slightly, a wooden block with a hole for the FPPP is placed on a concrete floor or a solid floor. Using a very heavy hammer (21/2 or 3 lbs) and a cup tipped punch the firing pin positioning pin can be driven out right to left. Use the short punch first and then the longer punch.

If you press the safety lock in the slide the firing pin will shoot out the rear of the slide. Now you need a brand new FPPP. (do not drive back in unless the firing pin is pressed forward a small amount)

^^

Wholly cow, looks like these aren't made to be taken out for cleaning often? No need then?

I have a 9mm slide.
