Limited Run 229... Better lucky than good?

So I've been waiting for two months on my 229 Enhanced Elite 9mm to arrive, and was recently told it won't be here until December. In the meantime I stumbled upon what I thought was a supremely good deal on a 229 Enhanced Elite in .40 instead. Turns out it's not an Enhanced Elite after all.

As you can see from the pictures below, the model # is E29R-40-MIL-TG, which a quick google search revealed to be (as you can probably guess from the title of this post) either a military order that was overrun, or a limited run for an odd combination of Sig parts. It has an "Elite" German lower with E2 grips, but a standard 229r slide (no front serrations), a 1913 mil spec rail system, and Sig night sights. From everything I'm seeing, there are only 240 of these total in the U.S.

Pictures below. Let me know if you want more/different. I would love to hear if anyone has any more specific info on this variant. So far the only thing I've done is remove the gray band, and get out the Frog Lube. I'll be cleaning/lubing and awaiting your feedback, kind Sirs.

Congrats and a real good looker.
Sig makes lots of variations. More than other brands I've thought. Can be a good thing and something to talk about.
I have a 229 that shoots 40 and 9mm equally well. All it takes is a bar-sto conversion barrel and a 9mm recoil spring. The 40/57 mags do 9mm just fine. Going 357 is even easier.

Nice looking gun though I'm not sure about the "military overrun" part. As far as I know the US Military has never employed the P229 as a service pistol, nor has it ever used the .40 S&W.

My best guess would be the "odd combination". It seems that SIG does these limited runs every now and then, building Frankenguns with existing stock. I saw some P228s floating around that had German built carbon steel slides on P229 SAS frames.

Great score. Perhaps a NCIS gun??
I thought it may have been a Special Configuration. I snagged one up as soon as it hit the store. I talked to Sig for a while about these SC guns. They informed me that the Custom Shop puts them together with hand picked options for limited runs.

Certain MIL units do in fact use .40 P229s. Some AFOSI guys carry them. Coast Guard also uses P229 DAK in .40 in some units http://www.uscg.mil/smtc/Training_USCG_BTOC.asp

We're can I get a trigger like that Mystro? I have a P229 Enhanced Elite in 9mm and would be interested in getting a trigger like that.

I came damn close to scooping up an Elite Dark instead of this one, but that was before I really knew what I was getting. The fact that only 240 of these were available to the general public makes me more than happy with my purchase.

I also like the Picatinny rails; they are a little more sharp-edged... purely aesthetic, but still cool.

You can't... Its a Custom Shop thing when they build the Special Configuration. I believe they choice pick options for the next great model they might release. The only other skeletonize trigger i saw like this was on Sigs competition show guns at the 2013 Shot Show.
I even sent my gun back to the Custom Shop for the Action Enhancement package. At this point it has every available option and I would never ever sell it. Its trigger is light and smooth like butter. I you se a SC gun, buy it. They don't ever sit around.

I somewhat agree, but:

Also, there is a vast difference between a weapon being picked up as a standard issue for the entire force and being ordered for a smaller unit that may have a preference. I'm not saying it is definitively a military overrun, but I'm not ruling it out.
