Received my stainless P226 back from the Sig custom shop

Hello all,

Back in June I took advantage of the Sig Sauer custom shop event where they did 20% off of their services.

I originally purchased this pistol as a police trade in, listed in "fair" condition. It had noticeable holster wear, the grips were worn (mostly on one the left side), the sights were dim, the bluing on the barrel was very worn around both the outside of the chamber and the area where smileys form, and the springs were noticeably worn. It wasn't in poor condition, but pretty much every area of the gun showed wear. I'd say that it looked worse in person than in the "before" pictures because the stainless finish reflects light back into the camera and hides some of the wear marks.

I got the "Sig Service Package", "Natural Stainless Glass Bead Finish" to both slide and frame, and "Nitron Finish" to the barrel.

Took about 5 weeks from the time I sent it in, to the time I received it in the mail (they said this was longer than normal as they had quite a few more orders to handle because of the discounts they offered in June)

I'm very happy with the results; the gun pretty much looks brand new in nearly every aspect. I was not expecting the grips to look so much better either. When I first pulled the gun out of it's bag, I saw the right side first and almost thought they replaced the grips until I looked closer at the left side grip.

Has anyone else had the nitron finish done to their barrel? I'm wondering how it's going to hold up to wear, and how quickly a smiley might form. I'm really glad I got the nitron coated barrel. When I first called them, I was just going to have the Sig Service Package and the Stainless Bead Blast done, but at the last minute of the phone call, I decided to go ahead and get the barrel refinished in nitron. I feel like the barrel would have really stood out with all of it's wear, with the rest of the gun looking brand new, had I not done it as well.

I also ordered a set of G10 grips for the gun while it was away as I figured the grips would still look pretty worn. If I knew how much better the factory grips would have been, I might have considered holding off on the G10 grips, but in the end I'm still glad I bought them.

I apologize for the large pictures, the forum would only allow me to upload so many pictures so I had to use a separate image hosting site.

Also, while I haven't shot it yet, there is a noticeable improvement from the springs being replaced from dry firing, especially when using the decocker.

it came out very well, you might consider replacing the factory grips if you like the style.

Like that satin finish on top of the slide. G10 grips looks great on it. Use it in good health.

I wish I had taken a picture before sending it off, but the front strap serrations were so filthy, and I wasn't able to get them clean with anything I had at home. This is probably the one area that shows the biggest difference.

Thanks for the excellent write-up, you can really see the difference in the pictures.

That's a very fine P226!
