First AR I have owned. However, so far so good! I have had mine for about 5 months. When I did get the chance to shoot, it ran like a champ using different mags, ammo. The only jam was my fault (rooky mistake). Still like the M400 over the Colt. Didn't like the wobble between the upper and lower on the Colt. The sig was like one piece. After seeing the round go through a pressure treated 4x4 at 45 yds. I do have some questions to the pros:
Has anyone hog hunted with the M400?
Thanks!
KLC
Thanks for the welcome Lourx!
KLC from GA. I did a ton of research before I purchased mine. Since the M400 Enhanced was "relatively" new I relied on Sig's reputation. Reading blog after blog and had to filter out the "sig haters" and focus on what the folks that actually had one were saying about the sig. Now I just have to stop buying things for it!
Here are the mods/adds I have made to my optics ready M400:
BCM Compensator
BCM Mod 4 Charging Handle
BUIS
Aimpoint Pro Red Dot Optic
Magpul Forend
Magpul Angled Grip
Magpul Pistol Grip
Magpul Trigger Guard (to fill that dastardly gap!)
Magpul CTR Carbine Stock
Streamlight TLR-1 with Remote
Geissele Super Dynamic Combat SD-C Trigger
Blue Force Gear 2-Point Sling (the cotton one with metal buckles, not nylon)
I obtained my Armorer's Certification from Sig Sauer Academy in May of this year so anything I do to my rifle will NOT void the warranty and I get a great discount through Brownells.
After many courses at Sig this year, many of them rifle, I have taken the instructors recommendations and applied them to my rifle. Why? Because most of my instructors are current law enforcement or military and they have tried and tested a lot of stuff and know what works. And so far, my additions and modifications have not disappointed. And you would be well served with a 2 stage trigger like the one from Geissele...awesome!
keep this in mind - any modifications made void the lifetime warranty so I would keep it to easy mods that can be put back to stock if you had to send it in for repair
Buffer and spring,
verticle handle's
scopes
maybe charging handle but I wouldnt mess with the trigger - but that is just me.
Personally my Sig shot great out the boxbut have been told about upgrading the Buffer in which case I may do at some point.
I know what you mean! I changed the magpul forend to a OD green aluminum quad rail from Acid tactical. However, it didn't quite match the magpul OD green furniture my rifle came with, but I don't mind one bit! Also added a magpul angled forgrip 1 in OD green & an M16 BCG. Got a voodoo OD 1 point sling & a cheap BSA dot site. Next time I will get a bad lever. So far, love all the upgrades!
Just got my M400 on friday. Hit the range saturday due to a private event at the range that evening. I put 400rds. Down range and only had 2 feed failures that I contribute to the ammo I was using. I used 4 30rd Magpul mags and they all operated excellently! Shoyld be picking up some optics here in the next week or so for it!
Welcome, Josh. An oversized latch on the charging handle, a quick release front sling mount and optics are the immediate mods I'd recommend. Trigger change - put 1000 rounds through it and see what you think prior to making that change. New buffer - no. Enjoy!
Not sure what the name is on it Malicious. Saw it at Academy for 119 and took a look at it. Com3s with 6 dot modes in 3 colors and has a light and laser mounted on it already!
I was curious if you attached a Magpul rail to the bottom of your M400 Enhanced handguard. If so which length did you go with?? Will the L5 fit? Or are they all designed to fit?
