Some of the parts have been updated/carried over to the 556xi series but should be interchangeable with the previous 55x series. You have to confirm with Sig's CSR.
I called Sig back and spoke with a nice young lady who said they would piece me together a parts kit based on my SN. Hope to see what they come back with.

Sig told me the 556 does have a lifetime warranty. They serviced it in December 2015. Only charge was $28.95 for round trip shipping.

Good to hear. Just wondering how they'd support a warranty on something they don't make parts for.

Very valid question.

I imagine if they eventually become 100% out of parts they might offer a current model replacement.

My feeling is the components in the Sig 556 will last longer than my ability to afford to buy enough ammo for it to wear it out.

Any idea on the part number for a SBR or Pistol parts kit?

The first kit that Sig sent me--which was not the correct kit--was for a "short gas system." The recoil spring was flat wire. The "Standard" replacement recoil spring for the full size rifle (the spring now manufactured by Wolff) is round, single-strand wire, 23 inches long and has 114 coils. The original braided recoil spring had 53 coils and was 21 inches long (might have compressed a bit from use).

Sig told me there are "standard" and "short" gas systems for the 556 series, so I assume the SBRs and pistols have a "short" gas system.

Their site did not indicate status of item in stock. I placed an order on 11/24 for the kit. It was still indicating processing order. I called them 11/29 and was advised they probably weren't in stock. Cancelled order.

I just got an email saying they're out of stock with no indication of when they'll get more.

Looks like we are back to square one.

Same here. I spent some time looking around online with no success.

I'm going to contact Sig Sauer Customer Support. This is ridiculous.

I contacted Customer Service regarding the unavailability of the parts kit for this weapon. I had the rep look up just the buffer spring, firing pin and firing pin spring. The cost of just those three items was going to cost $29.95 with shipping. They didn't have the firing pin in stock and would have to order one. They had no idea how long that would take. I am eventually order the springs but will go to a gunsmith and have a couple of firing pins made.
