MCX Recall Plus Geissele Trigger

SIG has recalled the MCX's Gen. 1 bolt carrier groups. In the fine print of the recall notice, SIG says to call customer service if you have installed an after-market trigger group.

I called and told them that I have a Geissele SSA installed. They want the entire rifle back to replace both the bolt carrier group AND the Geissele hammer that will work with the new BCG.

Bill-that just told you what little that I know.

I just got off the phone to SIG, since I installed a Timney AR-15 trigger. The service rep I talked to told me the new G2 Bolt carrier group is not going to be compatible with most aftermarket AR triggers. But since I installed a custom trigger, I will have to send my MCX in and SIG will replace my Timney with a custom Geissle that will work. So will have to see how that goes.

I just bought a Geissele SSA-E for my MCX pistol on November 28. I went back to the Geissele web sight a few days ago and they had posted a notice that the SSA & SSA-E were not compatible with Sig MCX firearms. I thought "WT?". I've had an SSA in my MCX carbine for months, so I couldn't figure why they were no longer compatible. Now I know. :(

I guess you'd have to call Sig CS to be sure but they told me they're working with Geissele on this issue, so you'd think they'd be fixing all the Geissele triggers. I got the impression that they'll be replacing the hammer in order for it to interface with the new BCG. Be prepared for a wait before you call though, I was on hold for thirty minutes before someone answered...

I'm reading mixed messages regarding trigger replacement. I obviously have not called yet. It sounds like all expensive after market triggers are being replaced, but I read where someone was told that their aftermarket trigger would be replaced with a factory trigger. I have an Elftman 3 gun. Wonder what response I will get from Sig.

Just got off the phone. I was told to reinstall the factory trigger and that they'd have a Geiselle SSA trigger (a nice little DOWNGRADE from my SD-E trigger) ready for us in February. Given their track record with MCX accessories, I'd wager that means we'll MAYBE have one in a year or two.

I also inquired when the caliber exchange kits will be ready to ship... they said they would for sure ship "sometime in 2017." (ordered mine March 2016 after being told they'd ship in April 2016)

What an absolute joke...

My serial number is outside (newer) the range they list in the recall. I wonder if I'm OK with the SSA-E I have in my MCX?

Just off the phone with Sig CS.

I have a Larue MBT aftermarket trigger in my MCX and thus will be returning the entire rifle. The estimated turnaround time is now 8 weeks. Yay.

Regarding the trigger, I was told that it would be evaluated to determine whether it would function properly with the new hardware. If it's deemed incompatible, I'll be contacted "to discuss options." That appeared to be a standard line from this particular rep rather than anything specific to the MBT.

It will be interesting to hear what's actually happening once rifles begin making their way back into owners' hands.

mcx recall

Sig cs...box coming in next few days along with instructions.
return complete rifle with my CMC trigger. They will remove the CMC, install the geisle trigger, and return the CMC to me. I also return my 300 blackout barrel set for retrofit, and the new carrier/bolt will be fitted. I did receive a bolt with the 300 barrel set, and CS said I will not get an extra set of carrier/bolt since the bolt face is the same for 556/300 cals. ?? The rifles will be returned in order the way they were received. 8 weeks guess, but triggers have not came in yet from geisle. Lets hope the mods are worth the wait. Three gun season starts in April. FYI.

Have lost all faith in Sig.I bet it will several months or rest of 2017.You spend 1700.00 bucks for empty promisses. They are unable to keep up making just parts.Where are the conversion kits they promised. And where are all these carrier groups comimg from.? CS reps all read from a script. They know the higher ups are listening.Replace with a trigger that doesn't exist. Right. And Geissle in Aug The SSA rigger would work by Nov. OOPS.
For those waiting on a box.Take a pic. That's all you will see of your MCX.And the 50 for the inconvenience how about 20-25 % of the rifle.
Your mistake first mine for buying it.

There are 2 different ways of looking at this.
1. SIG is trying to rectify a issue with their firearms and in doing so have reached out to the customers and said "We need to replace this." And in acknowledging that they "improved" on their product, to their own specific designs, that the "Common" replacement aftermarket parts may not fit.
2. SIG is focused on proprietary systems and is against aftermarket parts in their "high end" productions. And this non conformity is one way of keeping parts business within their own business. (Can you spell "Cadillac"? or "BMW"? )

then there is 3. Sig is so far behind the eight ball in production and reliability that there is nothing but endless rebuilds on the horizon.

I hope it is 1. It is probably a mix of 2 and 3.

Glad I have a solid Ruger SR 556. (Yes, they do exist)

I have two MCXs in hand that are outside that range with higher serial numbers than the range and both have the Gen1 bolt carrier. One of them is already at Sig and has been for over 7 weeks now. It originally went in to Sig because after the first dozen rounds, which shot very accurately, it couldn't hold a 10" group at 50yds.

I'm beyond frustrated at this point and have come to the realization that I should have just returned it to Sig for a refund instead of letting them sit on it and collect dust, er I mean, fix it. I'll be making another call to them today and see if the refund is still an option since I purchased it directly from Sig and only had it in hand for a week before I brought it back due to the accuracy issue.

Anyone else seriously thinking of junking the MCX and going in a different direction? I really wanted to like this rifle. I guess if it shot accurately and was reliable then I would but so far neither of those is the case with mine.

Yep. Mine's way outside that serial number range also. But it has the gen 1 bolt carrier and they want it back for replacement.

And I'm also thinking about not sending mine back. But not to sell it. I love it the way it is. It's a consistent tack driver and 100% reliable as it is. I love it every bit as much as my Colt 6920.

So. I just spoke w/ a guy at SIG. Apparently the triggers are NOT designed yet. If you want to send in your gun the wait will be 8-10 weeks. If you have one more recently manufactured you can take an alternate route where you just send in the bolt carrier group and they replace just that. You do have to replace the trigger w/ the stock trigger though as the guy informed me that the catch isn't high enough on the trigger so it wouldn't fire. But honestly it sounds like it just needs the hammer portion reworked. I think I'm going to go this route and ***** to geissele for the part so that I don't have a missing gun for 3+ months.

They also said if you register on the site that they will automatically send these boxes for the BCG instead of the whole rifle and you don't need to do anything further. If you're just getting the BCG replaced the turn around is 7-10 days.

Hope this helps some.

To add more fuel to the fire, don't expect your MCX back too soon...The first production run of the new BCGs got pushed back to next week. The parts are not even built yet. And priority is given to rifles already in the shop so add even more time to your wait. Feel better yet?

Good thing it's the holiday season and I've got other things to keep me busy so I can stop thinking about mine for a while.

My MCX is living at the dealership while I'm waiting on a stamp. When I heard about the recall I took a brand new SD-E trigger to the dealer and swapped it out. It's in the process of being sent back to Sig. I sure hope they can modify the SD-E trigger instead of replacing it for an SSA.

Talked to a Rep on 12.23.16. Said the box would be here within 72 hours, to ship rifle back. I said that would be fine, was going out of town and would ship back after the 1st. Get back and no box, called SIG customer service this morning. First they say the computers are down and would be unable to look up my information. He advised it could be three to four weeks to get a box, as they just started sending boxes out. Asked about wait time, this guy actually said they have 15,000 to fix and could take a few months. Really, why they hell are we SIG's guinea pigs. He tries and tells me, the failures only happened in testing, rarely. I brought up Nutnfancy and he about had a cow, said he purposefully broke the rifle. Just talking to this guy started to **** me off. When I asked about the recoil springs being pinned, he said they will last over 60,000 rounds and will never need replacement. What they heck is this guys smoking? Losing what little faith in SIG CS

Absolutely. SIG lawyers had to word the issue strongly. My MCX is running just fine and I'll continue to use it until the rush subsides. The recoil spring has nothing to do with the issue that was demonstrated in testing. That was simply failing to secure the retaining rod properly. But just so you don't have videos on you tube of springs flying off into space, Sig redesigned the BCA so that can't happen. I am totally confident on the reliability of my MCX.

Box notice from SIG

Today I received the email that SIG has sent a box for the return of my 5.56MCX with the Geissele SSA. Its serial number is in the lower range of the original recall.

I am going to take pictures of the hammer as it has VERY few rounds through it. Most of the firing was on the OEM trigger group. I will also photograph the disconnector which is a part that can fail due to the bolt's recoil velocity.

I will post again when I get it back and detail the results including the status of the trigger.

Bill
