Thanks for posting this, UPS delivered mine yesterday. For $100 I couldn't pass it up. When the weather gets better I'll do some testing, it'll be interesting to see if it makes much difference.

I bought one too, but for some reason CDNN would not deliver to CA, so I had it sent to OR. I'm curious how the gas piston block will work on the longer barrel- I guess that will be more obvious when it arrives.

Is the 716 the same as the 516 with regard to having a proprietary barrel nut? I found a custom one for my 516s , was $70.

Forgive me for asking, but what is CDNN? Not familiar with that place, Thanks!

I guess you could call it a "Discounter" at times, out of Texas. They used to claim to have more magazines than anyone else. Normally their prices are in line with everyone else, one of their pluses, is reasonable to "cheap" shipping. Sometimes they have some good deals on Sig items. Got some Sig Branded Green G-10 Piranha grips for a P226, for less than $50, because they didn't have screws with them.

Are you installing it yourself or are you going to have a gunsmith do it? I am very interested to know what your take is on this so far, since you got one in hand how is the quality overall of the replacement barrel?

I'll install it myself but it will be a month or two before I do because I want to do some testing with the stock barrel before I pull it. The plan is to get a baseline with good match ammo so I can compare fps and accuracy (I've been shooting PPU "match" and ball ammo). I'll post results when done.

CDNN's website describes this as a factory Sig part so I'm assuming it's the same quality as the stock barrel. I can say it's a heavy profile with M4 feed ramps and the gas port hole is already drilled. It's also the same "car" length gas system so no worries about being a direct swap.

Thanks for responding to my post, glad to hear some feedback before I take the plunge and order one myself. Wish you the best with it when you do get the time.

I took the plunge today, figured that I might give it a go as well and I placed an order for one.

Hi Twister,
I'm aware of different 716 models made with an 18" barrel- the DMR and 3-gun variants came with a longer hand guard and the gas piston block set more forward. Since you have the 18" barrel and say it's identical to the 16" barrel in piston gas block spacing, do you think this is same barrel on the DMR and 3-gun 716, but with additional hardware? Part of the reason I bought the 18" barrel, in addition to better bullet performance, was to set the piston gas block further out on the barrel and fit a longer hand guard (whether Sig even has these parts available, or will sell them to me is another matter). Your thoughts on this?

Geno

Hi Bigsig,
This is definitely not the DMR barrel. As you can see in my pic the shoulder that's machined into it is the "stop" for the gas block so it can only be put on in that location plus the gas hole is already drilled there. Looking at the pic it's obvious the extra length is on the front end so this brings the question 'what barrel is this? To my knowledge Sig never made a 18" length patrol model, perhaps a model for a "ban" state like CA or NY?

Whatever the case unfortunately it won't get you the longer hand guard everyone wants. The lancer one does not appeal to me at all so when I do the swap the plan is to modify one of my choosing to fit, not sure I can but I'll try.

(lol upside down pic, terrible iPad camera)
