Sig Sauer Swiss Military Issue Assault Rifle

I spent the summer of 1984 living and working in Switzerland as part of a "work abroad" program. One of my Swiss friends was showing me his military issue Sig assault rifle,but I don`t know anymore about it. Can any of you more experienced Siggernaughts shed some light on possible mfg. designations,info,etc.? Sorry,I only have the year I was in CH to offer. I do remember it was very sweet but unsure if was also capable of full-auto fire.

Is called 5.6mm Sturmgewehr 90 or StGw 90 and is chambered for the 5.56 x 45. SIGSauer did not have anything to do with it's development nor production. It can fire semi auto, three round bursts and full auto. The commercial semi auto version is called PE90, it's identical but cant be converted to full auto.

Isn't that the same thing as a SIG 550?

The rilfe is the same, the 550 is closer to STANAG. Details like markings, serial number range, rifling and some accessories are different.
