I own a Sig 556 and would not trade/sell/part with this rifle UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Initially, I himmed and hawed at spending my hard-earned dollars for the SIG when I could have purchased a less costly rifle... but in the end, I knew that anything less than a SIG wouldn't make me happy. I fire the rifle as often as I can (and can afford) and every time I do, I'm thankful for having INVESTED in SIG quality. And everytime that I take the rifle from it's case, invariably someone will compliment me on the rifle and, almost reverently, make note that it's a SIG. Step up. You won't regret your investment.
I put a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 on mine, and like it pretty well. It was about $185 delivered, pretty good value for the cost. Of course, a finer scope with the expected higher price would have been nice, but had to watch the budget!
Lol, @remo, yeah, I thought it looked kind of long on the rifle, but its right at 12", which I guess is pretty common for a standard rifle scope.
Mounts were separate. I got the fairly cheap Nikon P-Series, which look like a one-piece unit, but are actually 2 separate mounts. It works fine, and was about $50. I would rather have had a nice QR type, but just couldn't justify the cost on the cheaper scope.
It's a nice scope, and I like the fact that the Revolution are made in USA, but I really would have preferred a Leupold with red/green dot reticle, like a Mark AR, but couldn't justify the $$ at the time. If I ever step up for one of those, I'll probably bite the bullet and go for a better mount as well, like a Wilson Combat.
After talking with a range friend he said to get what I want as its a lifetime investment. The whole buy once buy right motto.
I know for a fact ill own an aimpoint pro so ill just get the magnifier for it and call it good.
I use mine almost everyday! before i got the 516 i didnt think i would use it much but then i got into predator hunting and its a blast.. me and my sig 516 and my foxpro and live is good..
i run a redfield 3x9x42 on my 516 and i've killed yotes out to 400yards. just turn the turrets and let the lead fly. nice glass for under 200$ and its made by leupold..
Im starting with the 716 it should be here soon, If I like it as much as I anticipate then Im turning right around and ordering the 516 to match, Will sell my other AR 15 already sold my AR 10 to help support the 716. I figure those two rifles and a shotgun or 2 and my pistol and 10/22 call it GTG. I will sell the rest Then I will reload for only 3 calibers and life will be simpler, I think.
