Ordering SSG3000 Tomorrow.

Placing my order in the morning. Have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 AO MC and Leapers UTG Max Strength LE Grade Quick Detach Rings already ordered for it.

Tough decision. Already have a great .308 target gun. Unfortunately for my wallet, I got a good deal on both the scope and the rifle and they just called to me.

I can eat again in a couple weeks.....:(

That's bizarre.

I was under the impression that it had a fully - adjustable trigger.

Is that part of the reason as to why the SSG3000 is cheaper now?

That's two of us. The blue box in the inset screen shot below was mine to add emphasis to attract your attention. The red varnish in on item 717 - Trigger spring set screw.

The actual adjustments you can make are in my previous post.

This isn't really a big deal to me, as long as Sig makes it right.

I called my buddy Eric [RSO that shot the gun with me] and asked him to take a guess at the trigger weight before I called Sig. His guess was "around 8 pounds or so - you really need to adjust it"....:(

ME: Why didn't you say something?
ERIC: Good question - it's crisp and breaks really nice, thought I may just not know the trigger.

I'm confident it'll be fine. I spoke with Joshua Adams - he's the CS Team Lead. When I told him of the issue, he put me on ignore for about a minute and when he got back on, he immediately said he was sending me a FedEx label to get it to them. Pretty different than some discussions I've had with Sig CS.

My guess is, some of these rifles may not have been properly adjusted before they went out and mine isn't the first call.

So far, so good. We'll just have to see how it works out.

We're waiting...

When you say "we're" - you obviously mean at least you and me....;)

It's not like I've got time to hit the range every day but man, the waiting to see how they did with it is rough.

In the box with the gun.

To the Gunsmith---

This trigger is far too heavy. I intend to shoot this gun in competition only and would like the trigger pull set as light as possible. I have a Savage 10FPXP .308 [20" barrel] that I've been competing with but am moving to F-TR Class. I bought the SSG3000 to get me out to 1000m with a little more velocity.

My Savage trigger is set at 1.9 lbs, is safe and smooth as silk. If it's possible and safe to get this higher end rifle in that weight area, please do so.

I love my Sig handgun collection and hope to love competing with this new Sig rifle.

Well, just found out about a problem. Sig returned the rifle using FexEx Ground - out of Lubbock, TX - 100 miles from Clovis. They deliver between 0800 and 1900 in Clovis. They have delivered stuff here as late as 1930 to me.

Needless to say, the delivery is adult signature required. That means someone has to be here to receive the package. My wife is in Tucson - I have to work and can't be here at the house all day waiting for it to arrive. I called FedEx top see if I could schedule a time frame to be here. Nope, can't do that because there's a service charge for it, and Sig won't allow any other charges. I have a FedEx account and told her I had no problem paying for the service - nope, can't do that. Only the shipper can change to service.

She did send a message to the Lubbock hub to call me. She said it may be possible for me to meet the truck on it's way into Clovis.

Not good news at this point. If I can't work tomorrow waiting all day for this to arrive - or wait again Monday because I couldn't be here - it's going to be a hell of a problem.

If I'd had any idea Sig would send a firearm FedEx ground, I would have simply told them I'd pay for the return so I could control when it arrived.

Not good.

SIG's used FedEx for all of my deliveries as well.

FedEx is one thing. FedEx ground is something entirely different when you live in smaller communities. Our ground service doesn't even come from the same state we're in here. Makes it tough.

#40 ·
I know - I live in a rather rural area myself.

Nothing but farmland for at least one and a half hours in any direction, with small towns for another hour or so subsequently.

#41 ·
Well, the call that I was supposed to get from the hub in Lubbock didn't come through.

I called again and was told I can't meet the truck, they can't leave it at the FedEx location here, and no one can give me any information until the hub opens in the morning at 0900. That's 1000 my time - two hours AFTER they start delivering here in Clovis.

He did say they would give me a call tomorrow to give me an ETA. Like I said, tomorrow's as work day. If I have a reasonable window to bee here, that's one thing, but 12 hours simply can't happen.

I may need to contact Sig to have them re-direct the rifle to the FedEx station here in Clovis.

Very frustrating situation. If my wife were here, no problem but she's in Tucson and no one else is here.

Bad deal on Sig for shipping ground to a small location.

So, now that I have an appropriate amount of egg on my face, and the FedEx driver DID call, and I have my rifle back, and the trigger was set at 3.5 lbs. by Sig, AND the note by the gunsmith said:

"TEXT REMOVED AFTER THINKING BETTER OF IT"

Gee, I wonder if that means ..... ????

Nah - probably not.....

Damn what a sweet trigger. It's actually .2 lighter than my Savage. I just need to get some paint to seal it where it is.

BTW, I cocked it and hammered the butt on the floor several times before deciding on this weight. It's safe. No matter how hard I banged it - I couldn't get it to go without actually pulling the trigger.

BUY ONE....:)

Intriguing...

#44 ·
In reality, the trigger's user - adjustable but SIG wants us to send it in for such?

I'm a little confused.

#45 ·
seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at times over there. Anyhoo glad you finally got it, cant wait to see targets and such, enjoy.

Thing is - it's not in the user manual.

I do understand there's a liability issue if someone doesn't really understand the risks and may hurt someone. Some yahoo that thinks a half pound trigger on a .308 is cool can easily over-do it and hurt someone.

Just because I could - I drilled this one down to .80 and still couldn't send it by banging the butt stock on the floor. I don't think it could go any lower because leaving it a short two-stage trigger, I still had to overcome stage one to make it go. I think I was at the limit. The sear in this thing is incredible. However, that's too low to be safe in my opinion so I started dialing it up to where it felt really good, then gave it another half twist, landing on just under 1.7 lbs.

I need to have a serious discussion with Oldwhatshername when she gets home next week. Right now, I'm thinking the Savage may be looking for a new home but she may opt for a muzzle brake on it and may want to keep it. Damned old broad needs to stay in the kitchen and out of my gun safe - but then again, I could have the opposite problem. <sigh> Guess I'll be satisfied as it stands.....

#48 ·
You really need to pair it with the appropriate suppressor...

That would be perfect!

#49 ·
Gave that some thought and decided against it. I went with a JEC Customs Brake after a lot of research:
Recoil Reduction / Muzzle Brakes

I don't have much trouble with protecting my hearing [WHAT??] using Westone Custom molded shooters ear plugs under MSA SUPREME PRO muffs so suppressing for me isn't an issue. I opted for the brake instead.

#51 ·
JEC Brake is decent. May be others out there that reduce recoil better, and I may play with some others down the road. However, honestly, I've been shooting .308 for a very long time without a brake and don't have any real issue with it. Just like to make it a bit nicer for Oldwhatshername to shoot. She's pretty much decided she wants to start shooting the Savage so finding a brake that works really well is a goal. Am I happy with it? Yes. But like anything else we do, there's always something better out there....

I've had the Harris longer than Atlas has been around. I just move it to whatever rifle I need to. As to cost - IMO, the cost of the Atlas is more than I will pay. Personal opinion from what I've learned - haven't fondled one on a gun yet - is that it's overpriced for something that generally gets just periodic use.

Thanks. And welcome to the forum. [looks like I beat the official forum greeter again....]

I hope he has been advised. I'd hate to see him downgraded or lose any pay over this. However, without due care, I could see him going from pay grade zero-zero to having to pay to be greeter until he redeems himself....

Tough call....

In case anyone's interested.

My eye surgery two months ago so far has been a giant step forward to my vision recovering to normal. Still have several months to go before it's completely healed but wow, what a difference/relief.

So what's that got to do with this thread? My visit to my eye surgeon last Tuesday went better than expected - AND I was released to start shooting again!

First order of business was to order the Burris 8-40X50mm XTR II I've been waiting on to top the SSG3000. Got it from www.cstactical.com. UPS tracking says it will be here Thursday 9/4.

I've had the Seekins Rings sitting here waiting on it for six months! 6/4 Cap Screws .92 low.

Here's the scoop, on the scope!

Video Review - "lowlight" Burris XTR II starts at 2:51

You can count on it. I've been waiting on buying the scope until I had a good result with my eyes. Not really knowing if I was going to be able to reasonably compete at past levels after the surgery, I wasn't willing to dump over a grand into a scope, because that may be harder to recover on if it didn't go well.

Ammo is a different matter - I can sit on a lot of ammo and still get that cost back if I could use it. So, I've been buying .308 ammo in decent lots the last several months.

Now - NONE of that ammo will be for sale... I can see it heading down range in my minds eye right now --- every single round I have - and more coming! :)
