Ordering SSG3000 Tomorrow.

Placing my order in the morning. Have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 AO MC and Leapers UTG Max Strength LE Grade Quick Detach Rings already ordered for it.

Tough decision. Already have a great .308 target gun. Unfortunately for my wallet, I got a good deal on both the scope and the rifle and they just called to me.

I can eat again in a couple weeks.....:(

Yep, I've researched and found it's about a 75/25 breakdown for great to zero. I figure with the rings running under $25, they're be ok until I can get some Ken Farrell's. He's out of stock on the 1" rings right now.

Sure, no problem. The distributor has three in stock and an order today should get it here by the end of the week. I should have it by Tues/Wed of next week.

I'm one of the lucky ones that gets delayed about 80 percent of the time when I buy guns. Seems there's a Steve Aikens in FL that is a felon....

NewEnglandShooter I've had the same problem for some time. I built up a really nice Savage that I really like and made the same research mistake you're making. Honestly, I've always felt I needed another gun like a fish needs a bicycle. Then I recently found out about the Axolotl or Mexican Walking Fish and thought - poor SOB DOES need a bicycle - so I decided to order the SSG3000.....

Might actually pick it up Friday. Filled out the 4473 for approval late yesterday. He's going to run it this morning so if I do get delayed again, he just has to re-confirm the approval number when I pick it up.

Sure would be nice if ATF would wise up and use that damn SSAN when someone volunteers it to avoid delays.

I'll post how it goes.

It's a custom I built from a Savage 10-FP.

Here's a shot of the sighting target when I finished it. Upper left are 4 rounds to verify the ammo and my platform. 5th shot is a little off-center but three left click [1/8th] solved that.

Really good gun and I love it but it was built to shoot inside 500m, short barrel to minimize harmonics. The SSG3000 is going out further to shoot F-TR.

I would have gotten a lefty SSG3000 in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, SIG says they don't make them...

EDIT: They don't import them into the U.S. :(

Picked up the SSG3000 about 45 minutes ago. Nice. I'll be cleaning and lubing tonight...:D

Already set the trigger. I need to lighten the pull some. Factory set is 3.3 lbs. May just need a good clean and lube but though it's crisp, it sure feels heavy for 3.3.

It came with the target. 5 round shot group at 100m. 2 rounds are in the same hole, 3rd is in that tight group making one small ragged hole, 4th is about half a bullet width in the same group and the 5th is just low outside that group.

I like the stock. I've had McM's and think this one is as good and obviously cost a lot less. The barrel does take down quickly and easily so rumors the Exeter models can't be changed is simply incorrect. Of course - getting barrels here in the US is a bit of a trick at this point. That may change and there's always importing available.

The case is - well - it got the gun here ok. I see another Pelican in my immediate future....

Pictures when I get a chance.

Again, nice gun. Before I shoot it - I like it. Who knows after....

Tell us about how slick the action is.

Can you cycle it as fast as those guys who do Stangskyting?

At my age, I'm lucky to be able to even WATCH them cycle as fast as those guys who do Stangskyting....

The action is really silky smooth. When I cleaned it, there was a bit of debris that made it feel a little less so than I expected. Once that was taken care of, I dabbed a smidge of light grease on the bolt, cycled it several times, then wiped it down just leaving a little on the lugs, it got "like butta".

Like I said earlier, trigger is supposed to be approx. 3.3 - in this case, I'm not sure what "approx." means but it feels a bit heavier than that. My Savage is 2.6 and is a good deal better than the SSG is. Might be able to get it adjusted down - I have an email in to Blazer about it before I go screwing around with it. Still a very good trigger that breaks like glass.

Rings should be in this morning. If so, I may get to the range and see what it feels like on the line.

Yeah, well...

Not exactly perfect conditions to get a scope sighted in.

We'll see how the weather treats us tomorrow and give it another shot or two. Did get some nice groups but with the gusts blowing up the dirt, it was rough shooting with a new gun & scope. Never did really get it dialed in.

Still, a lot of fun and the gun handles really well.

Top of the hill that overlooks my 75 yard handgun range. This is 100 yards from the targets, 110 yards to the berm and into the farmers land. No, the range itself doesn't have any vegetation on it....

Sorry about the blanket being blown up, winds were pretty rough by then and we were packing up.

Here's a shot of the rifle.

Just need to adjust the butt plate for the correct reach for me. It's a bit long.

Those are a bunch of empty shells there...

Show us where the bullets went!

Can't - trashed the target. They were all, except one, on the Shoot~N~See but trying to dial in a new scope in the kind of winds we had means the only real grouping was pretty poor. 42 rounds down range - I shot 22 [two to get on the Shoot~N~See] and my buddy - range safety officer - shot 20.

Windy as the dickens, dirt, tumbleweeds, and sand blowing all over - we didn't shoot for beans but had a ball. Under the circumstances, we didn't do bad, just nothing to be proud of. When it starts to get calm around here, I'll get a target posted - even if I'm not too proud of it....

The more I stare at it, the stock doesn't really look bad at all (another of my initial peeves).

I just might get one, regardless of the bolt being on the wrong side of the action, in the next couple of weeks (still bleeding from a splurge on a Tavor)...

We're Off To See The Wizard!

The Wonderful Wizard of Sig Gunsmiths.

Just off the phone with Sig. RMA and pre-paid label on the way.

As noted earlier a couple times, the trigger on this copy is simply too heavy. The OM says it set at 15N at the factory. There's just no way this one is at that weight. The OM also says it can be adjusted between 13N and 17N - I'm believing this one is at the high end.

Roughly two-week turnaround.

What happen? Trigger wouldn't adjust? Explain.

The adjustment is covered with red paint - not user serviceable.

Trigger adjusts for take-up, let-off, and reach only.

My Savage is under 2.lbs. I can handle a bit more than that but this is really heavier than I expected. Like I said, I think it's at the top of the scale.

However this is by feel, not using a trigger pull gauge. I called a buddy that has a broken one... he thought it was the battery - it's not - so just going by feel.

Either way, it far too heavy for its intended purpose.

I'm confident Sig can get it worked out.
