I'm new to the AR world... I've been thinking about getting one for quite a while and I was hoping on some input for my decision.

Right now, I'm thinking about getting an M400 Enhanced FDE. The price point isn't that bad... I can pick one up at my LGS for $949. The main areas of concern that I have is the reliability of the gun. Is the Sig M400 a reliable rifle? I've heard some stories about Sig rifles not liking certain ammo etc. I don't want to be in the position of having a 5.56 rifle that won't feed or fire.

I understand that the 5.56 isn't the most lethal round out there; but, it will get the job done... So, bottom line, is the M400 a good reliable choice for a first AR?

Awesome, guys! Thanks for all the input!

One quick question... For going to the range and just having some fun, there's nothing wrong with shooting .223 our of it, correct? I'm noticing that I can find that for quite a lot cheaper online. It still shoots pretty much the same as the 5.56, right?

My 400 has done fine with both. 5.56 has a tad higher pressures, I've heard of Sig claiming issues with 516's were due to using the lower pressure 223 ammo. I've never heard of this issue with the 400 series. Let us know what you get and how it shoots, I'm always looking to shoot more for my dollar!:salute2:

Well l guess l'll be the oddball here.

Bought my M400 on the 22nd and took it out the next day. Had multiple FTExtract, Eject, and Feed. After approx 35rds, l'd had at least 12 failures of one type or the other. The rifle is currently on it's way to Sig.

That said, l believe the problem lies in the chamber due to the heavy scratches in the spent brass and how hard it is to get the brass out with the charging handle when it didn't extract. l am confident that Sig is going to remedy the issue so I'm not too worried.

(l'll make a thread describing my experience in more detail once all is said and done )

Same problem with firing here except mine would eject but fail to feed. EVERYTIME. I believed I caused it though. I replaced the front sight with a flip-up gas block sight and think I didn't align the gas holes precisely. Adjusted it last night and today fired a 20 Rnd magazine with not one problem. All Tull ammo.

A small variety. Some Federal AE .223 55g, Winchester White box 5.56 55g, Tulammo .223 55g. All with the same issues.

I even chambered some Hornady Match .223 a buddy had to see if that would chamber correctly and it does not.

Like I said, I'm not too worried about it. I've heard of this happening before with other people (not with a Sig though) in a variety of different rifle types.
