I have the 516 and it has been a great rifle, zero problems. My only gripes are the weight, the lack of affordable handguard options, and the price. With the stock quad rail the rifle is unbalanced and you can’t place your hand were need to since the rail is very short. I broke down and bought the lancer carbon fiber handguard at around $300. The CF handguard is “okay” but I would have bought a 13” aluminum handguard if there was one made for the 516. As for the weight, my hits the scale at 9.2 lbs with no magazine (acog with rmr and streamlight protac 2 included). The weight is not a huge deal, but you will definitely notice a difference. The comment I get the most about my 516 is “wow your gun really heavy.”

As for the positives on the 516, the lower is exceptionally good. I notice magazine reloads are much smoother than a traditional mil spec. My mil-spec lowers seem to hang up more with pmags. The integrated tensioning system is also a feature I have come to really prefer. Accuracy is exceptional. Not to mention the 516 is probably one of the best piston rifles for the price. All things considered, I would recommend the 516 for someone that insisted on getting a piston rifle.

If you went with a DI rifle I probably would not go for an M400 as I feel they are over-priced for what they are (my opinion). For about the same price you can get a BCM CHF mid-length gas system, free floated barrel and rail on a mil-spec lower. To me this is a superior setup.

I purchased a M400 SRP two years ago and have had no regrets.
