I run a Magpul MOE VFG on my 516 in the same place. It all depends if you prefer shooting with your support arm tucked. IMO having far foward gives you more extension with the support arm allowing me to pull it into my shoulder tighter.
Nice!! Just got my MS3 QD yesterday. Its like it was made for this gun. I like that it can be used as a 1 or 2 point configuration. I'll probably add a qd sling loop or a Magpul RSA to the rail for the 2 point configuration. I like to use my sling for off hand shooting.
Pros - Its lighter than I expected. Very easy to install. It can free float, or install to handguard cap. Its versatile. If I wanted to strip everything off of it, (grip, rails, bipod mount) it would make a nice lightweight rig for offhand shooting, and the handguard alone is a very comfortable fit, smooth surface no cheese grater here. Continous top rail is nice too. If I want to add a magnifier I wont need any kind of special mount, just move the optic forward.
Cons - Cost: Its a little pricey for what it is, but then what aftermarket rail isn't ( you can find it for under $200 without the add on rails if you don't need them). You may have to get a new mount for your optic because it raises the rail 1/2". This wasn't a problem for me, because I was able to remove the spacer from the QRP mount. I have a lower 1/3 cowitness. Very low. Initially out of the box, the way that it clamps together with spring tabs by the front sight post seems a little cheesy, but it has locked up tight no issues, and feels solid as a rock.
Awesome man, Thanks for the info! I am really liking it and pretty sure that's what I'm going to end up running with. I like it cause I don't have to knock off the front sight...I just haven't decided if I want to do that yet. Plus it's different than the standard quad rails and I "Think Different."
I just finished saving up to buy a .308 semiauto and settled on the SIG716. Now, because of your pictures, I have to start saving for the 400. That is the nicest AR I've ever seen.
My single loop sling says "guntec" & I'm quite happy with it. Frankly got sick of web sites touting "the best right here" so I bought the best one I could hold in my hands at a gun show. Simple one loop design, but top shelf quality & the brighter side of ODgreen matches all the magpul furniture well. Has the short bungee ends at the D ring & give it a slight springy feel, great for slinging it out of the way, or in your face! http://sigtalk.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
High guys....nice set up, all the pics. I just purchased my first AR (Sig M400 Enhanced FDE). I am looking to mount an Aimpoint Pro on the top. My question is with the standard mount that comes with it, does it offer enough clearance over the front iron site or do I need to order another mount? If so, what is recommended?
I think you just cowitness with the Aimpoint pro and I think you have to by a mount for your carbine and I think if you don't want to cowitness you can get what is known as a riser mount.
@ Capt and JB...thanks....doing some reading on "Co-Witnessing"....think I understand what you're saying. I like the fact that the optic will come with a riser. Thanks for clarification.
Nice rifle. Optics speak for itself . Can you share moreminfomon why you picked that rail? Looks to be a fixed rail?? Just bought a couple of M400's and looking to modify well. I get the Magpul furniture but would appreciate your thoughts on the rails. How tough to put a floating rail on a standard M400. Thanks.
