| Just ordered a 716 on Saturday...
My first gun that I've ever bought (everything else I own I inherited), my first Sig and my first AR platform rifle - all in one! I got the 16" Patrol in OD. Can't wait for it to be ready next week and to get it to the range! This will be my new deer rifle. Hoping to ultimately put a good optic on it (I keep looking at the Vortex Viper PST). Any guidance you can offer on ammo selection (primarily grain weight) would be appreciated. Am I correct in reading that .308 in lighter loads might have cycling problems until proper break-in? If you guys can also point me to any break-in guidance or suggestions as well as cleaning, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Willis |

Just got my 716 last week. Took it to the local indoor 25 yd range, didn't accomplish much as far a zero, but after reading anothr post, I bought 5 diffrent types of ammo to see if I would have the same issues. So after shooting everything from Georgia Arms reloads to federal to match grade, all fired without a hitch. About 100 rounds through it and no problems at all. The rifle and every round I fired are more accurate than I am. I am by no means an expert. This is my first rifle, other than the ones uncle sam issued me for the last 16 years. However, my opinion is that the fit and finish are amazing. I don't know if it is the quality of manufacture or the spring that takes up the slack between the upper and lower, but I am very impressed. It has been 16 years since the Parris Island rifle range, but between my time as an 0351 for the Marine Corps, and my years as a pilot for the Army this weapon seemed so much better designed and put together than any M16, M4, M60, SAW, 240G/B, MK 19, M9 that I have ever handled. M2 is timeless and doesn't count. Heck I even like it better than German G36 I got to play with my last trip to the land of tall deserts. p.s. I did clean it before it I fired it. Nothing special, just a normal post field cleaning, prior to firing. |

Were you shooting all 7.62 or .308 as well?

Both. Trying to find more choices of true 7.62x51 168 gr other than the FederalM1A OTM Match. Also fired: Georgia Arms 308 168gr HPBT target (reloads from the factory) Federal 7.62x51 149gr (plain white box){seemed to be least consistant} Federal premium sierra match king gold medal 308 168gr Forgot the 5th one specifics. Looking at trying the Hornady 308 168gr A-max, Z-max, and TAP FPD. That way I have the "same" round for long range, plinking and home defense respectively. I hope that the similarity of these three would allow for training, distance and home defense with the same trajectory. We will see if it works that way. Again, the rifle fires it all well, just looking to get consistancy in a 168 gr round to match to a Nikon M308 in the future. Last edited by skibum; 08-07-2012 at 11:30 AM. |

I picked up my 716 last week. I grabed a few boxes of Federal Premium 175 G Sierra Matchking rounds. The dealer I purchased it from told me to clean it before firing it. Have not been to the range yet & cant wait. My question is what Scope/Optic to use. I want something that can use at 100-200 yds. Maybe even have more range. I have read so much my mind is spining. |

| I hope to have mine by Friday
If it wasn't for my FFL, and the Springfield I ordered last March that has yet to arrive, I would not have ordered a SIG. If someone had mentioned a SIG AR in 7.62x51, I'd have figured it was so expensive I could never get one. But my FFL got it and my price is $1650 OTD. Not bad. Talk about coincidence and luck. I got tired of waiting for the M1A, and so expensive for what you get. The 716, if I'm correct, comes with a free floated barrel, quad rail, and telescoping stock. Does it have the little sights they show in the picture or do I have to order those separately?

I pick mine up on Friday as well. It comes with the flip up sites. Waiting on the Nikon M-308 scope to be released (end of month was latest I saw) to get that on order.

Mine came with decent flip up sights, sling, cleaning kit, and mag. Yours should too.

| I can hardly wait
I am still shaking my head over the coincidence of how I came to order a 716. If Springfield hadn't dilly dallied for so long. But I think I'll have no regrets. I love those sights.

Did you hear about the incident in Washington DC last summer? The story didn't surface until after one of the recent shooting disasters but it was kind of funny. A "non-gun owner" was expecting a TV he ordered to be delivered to his apartment. His wife was busy rounding up a group of non-gun owning friends for a dinner party at their place. Knock on the door...UPS...package. He opened it and to his surprise it was a brand new SIG716 destined for an FFL but somehow got screwed up. The party arrived and there he was with a formidable rifle in his kitchen! He had a lot of explaining to do as his name and address were clearly marked on the box. It was turned in to the police. When you get your owner's manual. Read the intro text (ad) for the 716. That's what they quoted on the news and he read to his friends in dismay. It was a hoot. |

I've made a few changes to mine already but nothing fancy - put on the Magpul AFG and their trigger guard. Since it's my first AR I want to keep it predominantly stock. Although I do have a question - I'm not an avid shooter and even I know that the trigger pull is very heavy - does anyone know of compatible triggers for the SIG716 that will get the pull weight down to < 5lbs? I also ordered a Vortex Viper PST 4-16 FFP and their Switchthrow lever. I did some measurements and since I wanted to keep the back up sights and also use the Vortex lever, I went with the LaRue LT135 tall one-piece mount. I have the scope and the mount should come sometime by next week. Also picked up 6 different boxes of .308 to try out at the range and to figure out what the gun likes best. Hopefully I can get it set up and tuned before some Western MD deer hunting later this fall... |
