SIG716 Forearm grip

My SIG716 came with a forend grip. I have not attached it yet. I was wondering what the pro's and cons are to holding onto the grip versus the quadrail like a "normal" rifle? Is it more stable, easier to hold or an unnescessary device? I got one for my Ruger Mini-14 with the folding ATI stock and its attachment point is so far out that the only way it feels comfortable is to fold the stock to the side but I wouldn't want to shoot it that way. Thanks folks

Answer your own question

It appears this was not the most interesting question to ask and for that I apologize. To me, putting a fore-end grip on the 716 didn't make a whole lot of sense in that caliber but I was hoping others had some experience. Guess I'll have to try it and see.

I purchased a GPS grip for mine. It's used mainly when bench shooting due to it's bipod features, but I wouldn't want to not have one.

I have tried forearm grips on a SIG 716, LAR-15, M&P 15-22 and a SIG556. I don't like them. The only time that configuration felt right was shooting from the waist which I don't plan to do if possible. The rest of the time I felt the grips got in the way and/or held my support arm in a peculiar position without the possibility of immediate adjustment. I have tried different positions on the lower rail of each gun.

Experiment has concluded...no forearm grips for me thanks.

I rock a grip pod on my 516 and SCAR17. Like it so much each rifle has his own grip pod. People ask me how I like it…..so I fire a few from the bench then just pop up and fire at the gong (268yrds) very quickly using the grip pod, and after the boooonnnnnggggg I say, "ya I like it."

I agree, Plus the sound of the legs extending is ascetically pleasing!
