Interested in how this turns out. I have a 16" carbine, with tuning fork flash hider. Originally I got this length as a barrel chop would be way cheaper than the non existent sliding rail stock. (they were going for $500 on gun broker. And I wanted a can under the hand guard. Since then, I've learned the 16" runs a different gas system/ ports and you can't cut past 8". Thing could be a money pit, almost wonder if selling and getting a 8" pistol version would be worth it, and lose the idea ** a can under the handguard. And per another comment above, shortest barrel length might get you the best suppression.

I told the guy that was literally half of what I paid for the gun.

Anyhow is cutting down the only option right now? No aftermarket I'm assuming from what I can find?

Thanks guys!
You are wayyyy better off getting adco or class 3 machining or ZRTS to cut and rethread.. $599 and no idea when u will get it is outrageous.

I can't ever see myself paying $599 which is half the guns price... For a freakin barrel! But if in that 599 it included a new keymod and something else. Just not a barrel...maaaybe.

Does anyone know can we cut down shorter than 3.5" ? I think I saw a 3.5 inch but not a 3.

Only reason I ask is I'd love to run my 5 monthes down the line obsidian in the full fledged fashion and not in the k style.

Mine has been shipped back to me, but Im still waiting for tracking info. It should be here by the end of the week.
I was in the same boat. I actually ordered 2 barrels from Sig (16" 5.56 and 9" 300BLK), and was on the waiting list for both. I found a 5.56 in 16" on Gunbroker and bought it. Then called Sig and cancelled the 5.56 barrel order. Once I found out about Adco, I sent them my 16" 300BLK barrel, and cancelled the backorder with Sig. Im glad I did. I hate unnecessary wait times. And I would much rather spend $211 on the barrel work, than almost $500 on a new barrel. Also, Adoc's turn around time was about a day. Cant beat that.

No idea about your barrel length question, but I highly doubt that you will have your stamp back in 5 months if you just bought the can and submitted the Form 4. Stamps are coming back now from 5 months ago, but I project the paperwork going in now will likely take something on the order of a year based on the insane volume of pre-41F submissions. Silencer Shop posted a pic on Facebook the other day of a 4 foot stack of boxed Form 4s (and trust/LLC documentation) that weighed 113 pounds. I have to assume that the entire industry is similarly submitting insane volumes of documentation.
NFA Tracker is showing a steady increase in wait times that is approximately linear now but I suspect it will go exponential very soon.

Best of luck to you, Sir! I have resigned myself not to buy anything else for awhile after my Omega 9K that I bought in April. We'll see what happens!

Has anyone got their hands on a handguard for the 4.5" barrels...? I've abandoned the 16" carbine plan. Now ordered a 8" pistol, gunna chop the barrel and run the can under that handguard. But would like the smallest handguard from sig too... Bet aftermarket ones show up soon.

I just posted a review of a barrel rethread I had done:

Review: MPX Barrel Rethread By Fort Daniel

To do a complete cut/crown/rethread, Fort Daniel's latest pricing is $120, which includes return shipping.

Their website:

Has anyone had issues trying to chop there barrel on an MPX? My gunsmith/buddy said he has never seen a barrel that was so hard. His band saw would not even touch it and he has been building guns for some time. I wanted to ask around before waving the white flag and sending it off. Any suggestions on the process is appreciated.

I know Ft Daniel charge a little more for the MPX barrel compared to another one I had done...The owner said it was due to how hard the barrels were and the extra was to cover the extra wear on tools.

If I want to cut my barrel to 4.5 inches, and use the gun without a suppressor, what should I have the handguard cut to? I purchased an 8" barrel from Sig and I want to cut the 16" inch to 4.5" instead of spending another $500 Thank you very much

Probably could have gone another inch shorter, but wanted to be able to use my KAK flash can if for what ever reason I want to shoot un-surpressed.

This is off the subject but I thought I'd ask, what is that small implement on your fore end grip sticking down?
What is the function of that? It looks to be about 1 inch or less.

I assume it is to keep your hand from sliding off the front of the handguard and winding up in front of the muzzle. That would definitely leave a mark...
