What is the function of that? It looks to be about 1 inch or less.

If you are wearing gloves, it is possible to not lock your hand behind the "small Implement"; therefore, I use a Bravo Company BCMGUNFIGHTER KAG Keymod Angled Grip.

What does 'keymod' mean? I have been out of the sport for some years and just getting back to it.

Keymod stands for the key hole style openings in the hand guard or rail.

Has anyone shot a 4.5 in barrel Sig MPX with the stock handguard unsupresed and any issues with such setup? Thanks

NickS. I know this thread is a couple weeks old, but your question wasn't addressed.

I would not recommend running a barrel shorter than the barrel length.

The good news is that the "blast" from a 9mm round will unlikely damage the handguard. It will likely however make the handguard extremely dirty and potentially hurt your support hand holding the handguard.

My main concern is the pressure wave coming out of the barrel and the force against the support hand on the handguard. Not a good thing and would not suggest it.

I've done it with a 22lr SBR and even the 22lr round had an impressive force on the support hand and extremely dirty under the handguard. Never tried it with a 9mm, but on my 40 S&W SBR I use a KAK flash comp to prevent injury to my support hand and damage to the rail.

I suggestion is that this is a bad idea. The good news is that you can address this issue by using a flash comp or other compensator of the correct length when not using a suppressor.
