MPX barrel chop?

I recently acquired a SIG Sauer MPX pistol with an 8” barrel and was looking to see if anyone could cut it down and re-thread it to 13.5x1 LH. I purchased a 3-lug mount and a AAC Triad adapter but with the 8” barrel and the suppressor on, it doesn’t have that integral suppressor look. I have two suppressors that I would potentially use with it. One is a Tirant 45 and the other is a Tirant 9S. I know that SIG someday will be releasing the 4” barrel, but this is still over a year away and I am not sure if I want to go that short. My hope was to have the barrel shortened while keeping the fore end the same so that either suppressor have the integral look and it attaches inside the Fore end. I am interest in what your recommendations are on length, etc. or whether you all would advise against this and if so, why.
I also was wondering who you would recommend to do the work quickly and correctly. I have reached out to Marvin Pitts at Nefarious Arms a couple of times, but I never heard back from him. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
SB

Contact Steve at ADCO. He will get the job done right, has done a few barrels for me.

I don't know anything about ADCO, so I'm certainly not recommending against them, but I do know that I had my own MPX barrel cut and threaded by "Ft. Daniel, Inc" (link here) and the gentleman who's name I have forgotten did it in the time that he quoted, and to the exact specifications which I requested. I thought the price was fair as well.

Just waiting on the Form 1 to clear and for Sig to catch up on production of buttstocks. Honestly, I'm curious as to which one of those will happen first.

Side note: based on internal dimensions of the handguard, the largest 9mm silencer that I found that could fit in there is the Thompson Machine SG-2... which I have also ordered. The silencer in the above picture is an older Evo-9.

I expect the ballistics to be nearly identical to a GLOCK 19 with the above setup.

How do you like the 3 inch length? Won't pick mine up until tomorrow, interested to see how long the barrel is end to end with a 3 inch external length- guessing close to 4?
My Mystic X is about 9.5 inches with fixed adapter, couple inchs longer than your evo. Want to keep it short, what you have seems about as short as practical. Appreciate any thoughts you can pass along.

very nice! I really like the look of the can underneath the hand guard....I would like to shoot unsuppressed sometimes....do you have any plans of doing that? if so, how?

once again, nice gun and can!!

Innovative Arms is integrally suppressing mine tomorrow and handling the sbr'ing as well. Removable stainless steel baffle like on the carbine version that Sig initially planned.

K-baffles offer better suppression, but can be more difficult to clean as well as increasing back-pressure and ejection port debris.

I tried to offset the loss of suppression by using a monocore by ordering a Thompson Machine SG-2. It's modestly wider than the standard pistol 9mm silencer, as well as longer. It's a shame that the Sig MPX has so much room under the handguard to accommodate a wider silencer, yet few pistol-caliber silencers are greater than 1.5 inches wide, nor more than about eight inches long.

While the silencer that I ordered is a monocore without the superior K-baffles found in superior pistol-caliber silencers, I was hoping that the reduced particulate ejection and increased internal volume would compensate.

Please give us a heads-up when your integral is done.

I've had great luck chopping mine to 5" and threading 1/2-28. I have run a Ti-Rant 45 with 3lug mount. Accuracy is great using the can @5" in barrel length.

I had my 8" barrel chopped to 4.5" by Fort Daniel and got it back yesterday:

Amazing MPX Barrel Chop and Rethread

I put 25 rounds through it and it is considerably louder after the barrel chop with the YHM Cobra 40 suppressor despite it being 1.375" in diameter. I was shooting Georgia Arms 147gr subsonic FMJ. I had one failure to feed (pulled the trigger and CLICK). The gun was well lubed and cleaned before firing.

I am now wondering if the gas port diameter was optimized for an 8" barrel or if it was my ammo. Seems to me they would have made the port diameter the same for all barrel lengths for parts commonality. Of course now I want to shoot it lots more to see if the issue persists.

Anyone here have any experience or advice?

I had a local guy (Class3Machining) cut mine to 6" and rethread to 1/2x28 to match my XDM threads. I love my Griffin Revo9 since I now use it on my XDM, MPX, and 15-22!

Probably could have gone another inch shorter, but wanted to be able to use my KAK flash can if for what ever reason I want to shoot un-surpressed.

I've been heavily debating cutting the barrel to my MPX... Currently have a 3 lug adapter on mine using a SilencerCo Octane 9, Griffin Rev9 in K form and a Thompson Machine SG-2 pending. Suppression is pretty decent, a little louder than a pistol but seems a bit quieter than my JRC with 16" barrel. Really want to make it more compact and fit the silencer into the hand guard. I want to buy the factory 4.5" so i can use both barrels but that maybe really expensive and never arrive so I've been toying with the idea of cutting it but I'm really worried it will become significantly louder. I assumed it wouldn't cause much of a difference since my pistols are about 4.5" and sound great, but this is a different animal and as posted above looks like i maybe wrong in that assumption.

Anyone else notice a big sound difference when shooting suppressed before and after cutting the barrel?

Expect 4.5"barrel purchases will happen within a couple of months after the MPX-K goes on the civilian market. Last rumor I heard from SIG customer service was MPX-K semi-auto release sometime in May 2016.
However, historically, customer service's expected dates are usually 2-3 months ahead of reality.
