SIG716 part failure.

On 11/10/2012, i decided to hit the indoor range with me SIG716. shot 40 rounds perfectly fine. Third mag, i had a failure to eject. Removed mag and double feed 3 times in a row.... on the fourth time, i noticed the case stuck in the chamber with the ejector jamming it.

Basically, the ejector on the bolt flew out. The ejector spring is still in the bolt. anyone know what causes this kind of failure? i've shot about 1000 rounds since i purchased this rifle new.

I'll be contacting SIG on monday to find out what went wrong and for them to send me replacement parts.

Can someone tell me how the ejector is held in the bolt? Is it similar to the extractor? the extractor has a pin that holds it to the bolt. i may be missing a pin as well for the ejector.

ordered parts needed.

I called Sig on November 12. they sent the part USPS with no tracking. On the same day, i ordered the parts i needed from...

AR 10 BOLT PARTS

the spring, retention pin and extractor fit real good.

My SIG716 fixed with parts ordered. I did call them again today 11/15 to get an update and the rep told me i should see it in about a week. Who knows when the SIG customer support parts will show up. I would have gladly paid overnight or 2day air freight but the option was even opened to me.

I admit, I've not been patient with SIG. I did spend $1900 w/ tax on this rifle and a 60 cent part rendered this rifle inoperable.

Sucks man, sorry. out of curiosity did you lube the retaining pin prior to your outing? I've noticed when cleaning the bolt on mine that if I get too much Remoil on that pin it slides around and the little spring in there doesn't have a whole lot of pressure holding tension against it.

hey mmaz,

I only use tw25b on the bolt carrier group. The pin that holds the ejector in is super tight. I had to punch out the broken pin with a 1/16 punch.

7days has gone by and no replacement part from SIG. Luckily i ordered the 60 cent part from Armalite or i wouldn't be able to hit the range this past weekend.

SOB, Damn you SIG

My problem occurred on 11-12-2012. It is now 11-27-2012 and still no replacement part from SIG. Is this standard customer service in the gun industry? I have not contacted Glock or Kimber for failures.

anyways.

I just got 300 rds of Magtech 7.62 x 51mm Ball M80 rounds. will update everyone once i have a chance to hit the range.

Unfortunately it appears that slow CS is the norm, I've been waiting on Walther to send packaging and instructions about returning a PK380 For their recall notice. Been a week so far, can't imagine how long it will take once they actually have the gun since its the holiday season. Hope your part gets in soon and get thy 716 up and running again

11-29-2012 *update*

Ejector spring and Ejector retention pin arrived today! Enveloped was post marke Nov 20th.

Issue resolved. Thank you Sig customer service.

I do apologize for being so impatient. I guess being in the IT industry, down time is a big no no.

I have noticed that alot of us are very impatient when it comes to our firearms not working. We have visions of SIG personnel ripping our packages out of the UPS person's hands and getting to work that instant on our particular problems. Reality is probably far from that.

Just be glad SIG isn't a government entity like I've been around for 20 years. We usually "turn things around" in several month's time. And that's when everything is running smoothly.

It's unfortunate you had a problem with your Sig, I myself called Sig inquiring about the proper lubrication for my Sig716 bcg and they offered to send me a packet of lube for free. Low and behold they sent me about 20 of those little packets which arrived a fews days later. I was very pleased with their cs.

716 extractor question

This is the closest thread I've found regarding my problem. I have a Sig M400 which I like very well. I decided to take it up a notch and just bought a Sig R716 and began to clean it before taking it to the range.

When I got to the part of removing the extractor from the bolt assembly, I noted that the retaining pin was far more difficult to remove than the one on the M400. As I separated the extractor from the bolt assembly the first thing I noticed was that, unlike my M400, there was no "O" ring on the spring. Also, unlike the M400, the spring very easily comes right out of the extractor.

The picture on page 57 of the owner's manual sure looks like there's an "O" ring on the extractor spring but I've already found four other errors in the manual so I don't know if I should trust the picture or not.

The parts list and parts diagram on pages 90 - 93 only show the bolt assembly and don't even show the extractor or its components. Of course Sig isn't open today and good luck finding a gunsmith taking phone calls today. I can't even find parts on the Sig web site.

I decided to assume the rifle was properly assembled at the factory so I made a brief attempt to reassemble the extractor onto the bolt assembly. That retaining pin sure doesn't want to go in there and I don't want to force it, especially since maybe I'm missing an "O" ring anyway.

Can anyone give me an answer on this and/or take a look at his/her own R716 extractor and tell me if theirs has an "O" ring?

Thanks in advance and a Merry Christmas to all!

This is exactly what I'm finding with my new Sig716. I can remove the extractor pin by pushing it out with the firing pin, but, I can't get it reassembled without some serious force (actually using a hammer on the firing pin to tap the extractor pin back through). Mine does not have the "O" ring, which I feel is normal, but, I'm just wondering if it is because the extractor spring is so stiff from being new. I'm hoping the reassembly gets easier as I put rounds through the rifle and it gets broken in. It really should not require any extra force to push the pin through--only fingers (I only believe that because when I was in the Marine Corps, I never had any issues with pushing the extractor pin back in on reassembly on my M16A2.).

The pin that held my ejector in place was real hard to install. To remove the broken pin, I used a 1/16 punch. Installing the new unit, I used a hammer and the same punch tool.
