The Sig OEM stock was loose on my 516, and even the Magpul ACS has loosened up a bit after a couple of years, but doesn't affect anything. I just upgraded mine with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 x 44, and it's very nice, except for eye relief being a bit short.

@Steve40th, if you ever take the keymod fore end off, take some pics of that new style gas block for us.

I'm interested in a Sig 516 G2 but I'm a bit confused. It comes with a Keymod handguard in the 2016 catalog but the recently redesigned Sig Sauer website only shows it with Picatinny. Plus all the gun sale websites seem to only offer the 516 with Picatinny handguard as well.

I don't mind a Picatinny handguard but what I like with newer Keymod handguards is they tend to thinner which is nice for for C clamp grip. But the Sig 516 Keymod handguard seems thick (like the MCX) so it's not that big deal for me anyway unless it is lighter.

I do understand that the 516 is not a very lightweight AR due to its piston system. But has anyone handled both versions side by side? In your opinion, is the Keymod version noticeable lighter or the weight difference is actually negligible?

Thanks for your feedback!

I havent weighed mine, but it is a heavy little thing. I have an ACOG on it too. When I get home, in two months, maybe I will get a chance to weigh it.
Others on here may know differences.

I haven't handled a keymod 516 but own a G2 with quad rail. It's fairly heavy and I believe the keymod is supposed to be a bit lighter. Regarding the current system, Sig seems to go back and forth on what they use. While I like my quad rail ok, I thought the keymod was a step forward, and am surprised to see them going back to the quad again.

I think this keymod handguard is exactly what my 516 needs.......hopefully SIG will begin selling these soon. Mine needs it.

+1 for the BCM KAG. Also a huge fan of the mod 3 vertical grip.

Must say it is exciting to see a keymod handguard on a 516. I have been anxious to get my hands on the 516 pistol in the new 11.5" barrel length and keymod handguard.

Hello, quick question about your setup. The BCM charging handle works well? I read that the sig design was not compatible with after market charging handles. I would love to change mine.

Sig 516 unboxing

I've got a BCM Gunfighter ambi and a Raptor and the BCM works perfectly with the 516. The Raptor works but binds slightly at full extension of the handle. You can only feel it if you pull the handle slowly. I actually use the Raptor most of the time as I like the feel of the latches better on it than the BCM.

I've had a BCM mod4 on mine almost since it was new. (December 2012) no problems it works great.
