Just got a MCX air rifle

I realize that this is not a real gun but my son got 2 MCX .177 air rifles at the Sig Pro shop yesterday.
These supplement our 2 320's, 716, and 3 938's.

The only problem is that the pro shop was out of the 88-90 gr CO2 cartridges so we are just fondling the weapons until we can get some propellant.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to the best plan to get CO2 cartridges?

In the same boat

My wife bought me one for Christmas from Shooter Outpost in Hooksett, NH. According to them and SIG any 88/90 gr. cartridge will fit. Not so, I'm heading to Shooters tomorrow with both the gun and cartridges and get answers from them.

Oh by the way, the SIG Pro Shop is not out of cartridges, SIG has not started making them yet. Supposedly sometime in Jan/Feb., but you know how SIG can be.

I'll let you know what I hear from Shooters Outpost tomorrow(Sunday).

Thanks. My son said that they didn't have cartridges. I figured that they had run out.

I'll tell him to check out shooters outpost.

Those are decent looking rifles. Although I prefer the Gamo break barrel action. Mine is very accurate, 1000 ft/s no cylinders to worry about, and .22 caliber.

Only downfall is one shot at a time whereas you have multiple repeats.

Are those new to the market?

From what I can tell they were announced in January of 2015 and the first reviews seemed to come out in mid 2015 so they are somewhat new to the market.

We got the .177 s

Found the co2 cartidges

Hi Nhusa,

I just got back from Shooters Outpost and talked to them about the problem finding cartridges. They called their SIG Rep and found what to use.

They are available on Amazon:
Amazon.com: Umarex 2252534 Co2 Cylinders (2 Pack), 88g, Grey: Sports & Outdoors Amazon.com: Umarex 2252534 Co2 Cylinders (2 Pack), 88g, Grey: Sports & Outdoors

Also, Shooter Outpost has ordered a bunch from their distributor, they should be in the first week of January.

Thanks for the update.
My son ordered 12 88-90 JT cartridges from Amazon using his prime account
They were about $10 for 2
We expect to see them on Tuesday.
If they don't fit we will have a bunch if compressed gas.

Interested to see if they fit

Let me know if they fit, the JT 90 gram cartridges my wife bought didn't work.

The JT 90 gram cylinders fit and work. We got the #40297 2packs

BUT things are not happy.
We are using Sig pellets and are getting numerous jams

We began by using the insertion tool to set the depth in the chain and got a jam within a few shots.
It took us awhile to get the magazine out and found that a pellet had moved forward causing the jam
We have a second gun so we switched magazines and the second magazine worked OK.
Then we switched back to the first magazine and still had the jams.

A Utube video guy said that he had jambs when he used the insertion tool but did not when he put the pellets in flush.
Flush did not work for us!

Today we wanted to adjust the red dot sight so we loaded the second (good) mag using the insertion tool and it jammed.
Getting the magazine out is a royal pita because the pellet moves forward a little and acts like key that locks the chain and barrel.
We don't know why it happens.

We are hesitant to put a cylinder in the second gun and try it but it is most likely the next step.

This is unacceptable and really sucks
I hope Sig has a fix for this.
We are disappointed with Sig.

UPDATE

We put a cylinder in the second rifle, loaded both magazines using the Sig method, and it jammed within a few rounds.

After a few choice words, we reloaded a mag using the flush method.
There were no jambs so we proceeded to run off about 240 rounds using both mags and flush loading.

There was only 1 jam so things are slightly better, but one rifle is defiantly a problem and the Sig loading method does not work.

Thanks for the update

Nhusa, thanks for the update, I'm still waiting for Shooter's Outpost get cartridges. When they do I'll try first not using the SIG insertion tool and just flush mount the pellets. Hopefully, I can avoid the problems you had.

Finally got CO2 cartridges

I was finally able to pick up CO2 cartridges that fit from my LGS and got to try the MCX air rifle.

And it worked great, no jamming, zeroed the scope in for 50 feet, but also tried some shots out to 125 feet. Ran 120 pellets thru with no problems at all. For $210, it's small money for big fun.

Don't get me wrong, it's not going to replace my SIG 522 or 556 rifle, but for a little fun in the backyard it's a blast to play with.

I have one, and I've experienced the same jams.. I don't have the time to play with mine if its not going to work so it's going back.

We just added a 4-12 40 mm scope to one of the rifles
It was raining so we couldn't zero it in but at 12 I could see the water drops on the leaves.

As for jams.. One air rifle jams and the other has been near perfect for 500 rounds.
Sometimes you get lucky

Don't give up yet, deadmanmike

I had no problems with mine at all, I bought the version that came with a 1x-4x-32mm scope.

Not a single problem after 120 rounds. I wonder if any jamming problem is actual an issue with the magazine or an issue when pulling the charging handle after inserting a magazine.
