I took the Family to the last night for Glendale Glitters, it's a big thing in the Valley every holiday season. Well we drove past Cabelas in Glendale Arizona and I noticed that not only were they open, the parking lot was full.
I told (Begged to let me stop inside) my wife I was going inside for a few minutes and she didn't give me any lip so I went inside while the family stayed in the car. Well that ammo shelves for .223 and 5.56 were all sold out except for 2 boxes of expensive Hornady .223 55 Grain Zombie Max ammo and there was another man looking at them. Just as he was reaching in I leaned in a little and snatched up both boxes and then to try to show that I was looking at everything ( I Wasn't) I grabbed a box of .223 WSWM ABCDEFJKLMNOPQRS Etc. ammo. Wow, I am so glad I opened the box to see the difference and I must say that .223 WSM or what ever, is not just a standard .223, it is the obese older brother to the one that joined the Army. Like that older brother, there aint no way that stuff is going to ever fit in my rifle with out a barrel change.
Well the total cost of both boxes of Zombie Max was $43 dollars with .45 cents credit from my loyalty account. Grab it when you can. At least I feel better about shooting some of my cheap ammo now that I have some defense ammo that will at least protect my family from perhaps 40 zombies or more if my aim is true and I get lucky with the shrapnel.

Thats like my local store Shoot Straight here in Apopka FL, only thing thay had was Hornady TAP (Tactical Application Police) $26.99 a box of 20 = $1.35 a round. OUCH!!! 4 boxes was $114 and change. No one has a single box of cheap stuff.

It's bad and getting worse.

Bulk 22LR has ceased to exist, and finding bulk 9mm and .45 ACP is very very difficult.

.40 still seems to be in reasonably good supply.

When I bought my first AR back in December right after the shtf I bought 2K rounds of Federal at 359 per thousand.

Thought I paid a lot then...guess I was wrong!

Yeah I was up at Cabelas in ME this weekend and they had some of the Hornady .223 and the AE Varmit rounds. Plenty of 9 and 40...not so much in the 45

Tough to find .22LR bulk around here. And this is definitely pro-gun country.

One more thing on this. It was listed as "backordered - not available until 2/23/13" or something like that. I ordered anyway because you lock in the price and they don't charge you until it ships. To my surprise, the order arrived Friday after I ordered 1/7/13 despite the backorder notice.

$163 dollars for 300 rounds? That better be some pretty good stuff, of course this is coming from the guy that just paid more than $20 bucks for each of two boxes of 20 rounds of Hornady Zombie Max ammo. More than a buck a round. Good grief just thinking about it makes me feel as if I voluntarily let myself get anally raped without the consideration of making them at least use ribbed for her pleasure lubricated condoms. I guess I'm just new to being raped at the check out line. I'll be better prepared next time.

anyone have any experience with Blackgun Industries?
Ammunition | BlackGun Industries

I still believe patience will prevail here. If you can stand it...(it was 75-80degrees down here this weekend & I wanted to go shooting bad)

prices will start to come back down at or below that .50cents per round mark.

Brownells still has decent prices listed for some of their 5.56bulk but its not in stock of course...$390 per 1000 & some from DixieAmmo?

I have purchased the XM193 from BGA but it was New Manufacture ammo, not the remanufactured stuff they have available now, but I have had no problems with it. All that I have shot with it has gone bang and poked a hole in paper. It is manufactured with the same procedures as new but only with once fired brass. I got the 500 round bulk loose pack in the ammo can back when it was $169. I since have stopped shooting my AR due to lack of availability of 5.56 so that I can maintain my current stash.

...prices will continue to stay high(er) even after some level of normativity returns due to the fact that people are willing to pay what the price gougers are asking….
