716 DMR came in today!

Just picked up my 716 dmr. It is a "gen 1" not a "gen 2", I asked the cs rep about the discrepancy and he told me there is no such thing as a gen 2. The catalog is a bit confusing and the rifle I inquired about is not being produced. My rifle was made 5 days ago so it is as new as they come! It came with a sig hard case, bipod, sites, and a bunch of extra goodies. It's HEAVY! but should be really fun to shoot. The group size it came with showed a group of 0.77. There was one hole that was a bit off, if it wasn't for that shot the group would be down to about 0.3ish. I'm excited to try different types of ammo and see how tight it can get. I'll be adding a muzzle brake and scope soon. I'll be posting some pictures of this bad boy tonight!

Don't know that particular Vortex. 716 is a big rifle with a heavy BCG and lively recoil spring. The forces that BCG creates moving forward into battery may eat a typical 'sport' optic.

Without a very robust scope, bad stuff can happen - lens pop out, or get loose with gas leak and fogged lens, reticle can't hold zero, etc. Am just suggesting that you mount the most durable, mil-spec scope you can afford...

On a brake, if you don't need a suppressor's QD adapter, the universe is your oyster! This review is usual reference.

You may find that the top rated here are usually backordered. My experience with Surefire, Battlecomp & PWS is that they're all pretty efficient...

I would like to stay around $700 for the scope. Any recommendations would be great. And thanks for the site I'll definitely review some of them

Printed circles?

Where are the actual holes in the target from the actual bullet going thru it?

Rifle looks beautiful. Enjoy it in good health.

Rex's YouTube channel is a good precision shooting resource. SWFA has the Navy's sniper rifle scope contract suppling SOCOM units. These are very tough optics - at very reasonable price points.

Here's one of his vids. Read this video's description for the details on their military scopes.

Mikey.....I use a vortex PST 2.5 x10 on my 3-gun heavy ( basically the first dmr version). IMHO I would not worry about a brake...the gun is so heavy, recoil is not really an issue. I went with a yhm phantom flash hider as I felt lower profile flash signature was more important.... Plus my other 308s with brakes produce a really nasty blast and big fireball.

Another optic suggestion for ya is Leupold's VX-R 3-9x40mm Patrol. This is the same scope HK ships on their MR762A1 long range rifle. Don't know yet if this glass is included in the Army's new light sniper rifle contract just awarded to HK.

You my find a better deal, but LaRue sells this Leupold with their fine QD mount at a list price of $725 here.

Leupold VXR Patrol 3-9x40mm FireDot TMR (30mm) with LaRue QD Mount | LaRue Tactical

Another good option is Burris new XTR II 2-10x42mm. This scope hasn't yet shipped, but should soon, list at $925...

Cheers
