Choosing the right M400

looks like there are several M400 models to choose from. trying to decide which to buy. I am not a hunter and would just be shooting at an outside range. Probably not shooting any distances over 200 yards. If I want a scope on the M400 will the front sight be interfering with scope sight line? or is the front sight removable? What is Magpul? Is that a cheaper brand 30 round magazine? Is Sig one of the better AR style rifles out or should I look at other brands also. thanks

Well, it depends on how hard you want to geek out on it. For instance, I bought the M400 Weld.

I wish i could put the Battlecomp 1.5 compensator on it, but the existing flash hider is pinned and welded on. So I just saved myself $150 by virtue of not doing enough research up front. LOL.

The good news is, I broke it in yesterday and I dont see anything wrong with how it's configured other than buying an optic of my choice...I do like the "classic" look. But that's just me.

I'd say go for the Enhanced version and you can deck it out however you need to.

Thank you for input

Thank you for the info. I will look into the Enhanced model then. I'd rather spend an extra 2 or 3 hundred and not have to backtrack on what I should have bought after looking at accessories and add ons. Great to get to chat a bit before making a $1500.00 purchase.

Whether or not the front sight is "in the way" is a matter of opinion really... Most optics (if not all) will be able to 'co-witness" with the A2 Front Sight, and I actually think it looks pretty cool having the sight in the line of view. It is removable but you'll have to replace it with another gas block, or just grind it down. Or just buy the optics ready version.

Magpul is a company that makes good, quality accessories for firearms, mostly AR15's.

The M400 enhanced comes with the handgaurds, pistol grip, stock, & magazine by Magpul.

The Magpul P-mag they come with are arguably the best (most popular?) AR15 mags you can get right now. They're made out of polymer and have a high quality spring & follower. They also come with dust caps and colors.

I have the M400 enhanced and it is sweet! Magpul furniture is a big bonus. As far as the front site, I too was contemplating removing but just added a BSA 4x90 scope and setup to co-witness and this think is a beast now.

Really only problem I see is finding one period right now. I would entertain getting the hunter version for the 20" barrel to add to the 16" I have. Super sweet "turn key" ar's. cant go wrong with any model in my book.

LOL, if you know where any are in stock please share lol ;-)

There are plenty of youtube videos showing Magpul Pmag torture test. One I seen they did the same test with several different brands, they drove a chevy truck over them and even did a burnout on a Pmag. It still worked.

Just picked up a used M400 and am trying to find more info on it. Specs, etc. Found a few websites that claim its mil-spec or built with / to mil-spec. But also found websites/reviews that claim majority is commerical grade. Does anyone know the skinny on facts regarding bolt, trigger assembly, buffer tube/spring, etc.

I have the M400 and it is Mil-Spec all the way. Early review builds were sent to magazine and website reviewers with commercial parts but the actual finished product is all military Specification. In other words, don't buy a commercial stock for it. The gas block barrel diameter is .750", the trigger pins are .154", and the stock extension is mil-spec. So you see, you have a very mil-spec high end carbine. I love mine. I paid less than $900 for mine and it's on par with more expensive models. It comes with a chrome barrel with a 1:7 twist and that is unusual for a medium priced AR15 kinda like the addition of the ambi mag release.
You got a really good carbine. Don't listen to all the SIG Haters, they are just jealous.

What?????? My Sig is not Mil Spec?????? Oh.....What the...........@#$%^&*(. Thats it. I don't care how great and reliable it has been. I am throwing it in the trash tomorrow. Right next to my PC cause I can only use Mac products, and my android device too. Then I'm going to hop in my Prius and get some Starbucks. Yeah thats what I'm going to do. I will sit there and sip my caramel machiatto and judge all of the inferior peeons who walk by me..........Yeah..........

Capt Caveman is right. if you can find a sig AR then buy it. I live in NH where they are made and have been able to add a few M400s to my gun safe and that was driving to the SIG SAUER pro shop and buying what they had.. they have probably 10 to 15 different configurations on the wall and all are sold out. I bought a Swat mod the other day and it was the only version they had in the store and when I got there they were all gone. I got a guy to put my name on one as I was driving almost 2 hours to get it.
Once you have the platform you can do a lot to it over time...
Out here if not at the Sig Store they are going for close to 2k and on line at GB they are 1600 to 2000.

Here in Taxachusetts given the panic buying spree, it is almost impossible to get any long gun that is black in color, or has more a three round magazine. Most places are sold out of anything above .22 rimfire.
It is possible to order a sig m400 direct from sig. (I ordered mine just last month from their individual officer program). The Mass compliant SWAT model is $933.00 plus tax and transfer fee to FFL dealer. Mine will come with a non-adjustable stock and ten round magazine, still it is the platform that matters...They are quoting a 120 day back order....

My question is... does anyone know a good source of pre-ban magazines? I am also considering ordering some magazine repair kits which technically do not fall under the high capacity rules around here....

thanks.....

I bought an M400 Enhanced New Year's Day at Shooters Outpost in Hookset (owned by the same people who own Manchester Firing Line) Paid a premium over what Wally World was charging prior to the ****.

I originally wanted a Sig back in December from the same place but ended up buying a Windham MPC. The Sig Enhanced at that time also came with the cool rifle bag. I ended up waiting 2 hours before they opened that day to wait in line.

This time around I actually went to Shooters to buy Copper Solvent of all things and they had AR's back in stock. I knew I didn't want another Windham and by the time they called my number they had about 5 of the Enhanced M400's left.

What the hell, it is only money right? lol Spending some time outfitting it with some extra bling, I think I'm gonna like the rifle :)

On another note, I got a Sig 522 at KTP the other night. This looks like a real FUN piece for sure.

I'm gonna be hitting the Sig Academy Pro Shop this weekend on my way to Cabela's Have never been and now that I own a couple of Sig's I have an excuse lol

Well if you were in the military, police or something like that, you should check out the Individual Officer Program. the m400 I ordered seemed like it was about 275 off MSRP and about 150ish off what I have seen on the web. Of course the tax and transfer fee kills it. Have you tried State Line Guns in Mason? That's where I usually go, but they are pretty much out of black guns.

#15 ·
I haven't been to State Line in Mason as if yet. When I lived in MA I spent a lot of time (and $$) at Four Seasons in Woburn. Carl and his staff are excellent to deal with. I wish I could still shop there heh

Riley's in Hookset has a great selection and I find myself spending time there and at Shooters just up the street

Both places had 30 round mags as of a few days ago.

Do you ever go to slickguns.net? 30 round mag deals pop up almost every couple days

The M400 Enhanced were going for 1499.

I saw that they had Colt 6520s for sale today I can only imagine what those were going for

Last check the Windhams were selling for 1100 I believe

Heck even the prices of the "taticool" 22 s have gotten crazy. They want 700 for the Sig 522

The higher AR prices are not deterring anyone though Last time they got 200 ARs in and opened at 10. The ARs were sold out by 2. I imagine all the Colts were snapped up today quick

I buy all my sig handguns at FS. Great service if you can wade through the crowds. My m400 will be shipped there. The sig individual officer program works through interstate arms in Billerica for mass residents. Not sure what they do for NH residents, sure it is easier than mass. Will check out the hooksett places as well as slick guns
Thanks again

Couple of bubbleheads? :) I only know that term as a couple of guys who were in my squadron were prior Navy submariners. Both of them about 6'5 too boot. Go figure lol

Does Sig do a discount for military or is it just LE? I wouldn't mind picking up some more Sig products at a discounted price :)

I miss going to FS. Carl is the best

I'm going to the Sig shop Saturday, I'll take a look. My guess is they are out

Thanks for the heads up on how nice it is. I hope I can walk out of there with some money left as I'm heading to Cabelas afterwards lol.

And yep, I know what you mean on Harley. I have a 2011 Road King and always am looking for new bling lol

The Sig Shop is hit and miss right now. One of my buds picked up a 716 and a m400 wednesday after work. I went last wee and got a m400 swat but I think that was the last they had then. They normally get gun in around noon... I have been able to pick up 3 over the last few weeks.
Tango, I ride a BMW ... that shop cost me money too..

In the Navy...

Was a Navy Hospital Corpsman from 68-78, spent time in warm places with unfriendly people. Then the army made me a deal I couldn't refuse and made me an officer and gentleman for my last ten years....I always thought they had lower standards LOL:p

The IO program is for law enforcement first responders, military active, retired or reserve. Pretty much anybody with fire, police, EMS or military or ex military credentials.
I had to send them a copy of my retired ID Card.... I think Ruger also has such a program, at least that is what the folks at Interstate Arms in Billerica said. Their LE department is swamped right now and all their Black guns are out of stock with long delays in stockage. Same thing for their ammo. The Sig program does most of their handguns and long guns, in Mass of course everything has to be state compliant. Prices look to be about what a dealer pays or so they say....The information is under the LE/Military section of their web site. Heck... if you buy 25 or 30 handguns in one shot, they'll even engrave them for you!

Love the Secret Squirrel Moral patch lol

I'd love to get my hands on an FDE Enhanced M400, should be fun to see the shop and what they have to offer

Blue GS, that is a pretty good track record especially in this climate where AR's are invisible on the shelves for the most part. I was in Rileys a week ago and they put a Windham Weaponry MPC out on the shelf for 1049. I picked it up, put it down (I had just gotten one, same model a few weeks prior) and it was gone withing 3 minutes after that. I was chit chatting with the older gentleman who bought it and he said he had been building an AR as a project. Since parts were getting scarce he said the heck with it and just bought the Windham. Lately a lot has to do with being someplace at the right time.
