The way I understand it is that as long as it's an AR15 magazine than it should fit an SIG556 just fine. You have a lot of manufacturers to choose from, but I'm sure that they are all sold out at the moment...

Thermold magazine will not work in a Sig 556R. When you compare the structure of the magazine with the mag that comes with the gun it is really a lot different. Thermold mags are a little bit thicker on the top and the lip that clips in is different. I attempted to put one of these in my 556R, it will not fit because of the shape and difference in size on the top.

isn't the "R" in 556R for Russian???...don't they take AK type magazines??? or are you saying that yours can't use Thermold magazines made for the AK/556R???

My 556 will feed from pretty much any mag I put in it. I went to the range friday and forgot to take mags with me so I had to buy one from the pro shop. It was this used AR mag that looked older than me. It took a little wiggling to get it to lock in place, but after that it fed just fine, so you should be good with pretty much any brand and any gun shop should have mags you can buy.

The OP is asking about the 556, not 556R. Two different rifles.

I agree, stay away from the Thermolds, Pmags are becoming easier to find. Troy Battle Mags would be a better alternate choice than Thermolds. Heck, even Hitler despised Thermolds!

Warpath, how do you like your Henry rifle? Those have intrigued me, I've just never gone ahead with it. Being a Henry, I am sure it is well built, does the design really come together as a well functioning machine, both in operation and taken down storage?

Last year I picked up 5 and 10 round Thermold mags.

They were both the same-- The 5 round was pinned.
It did give some trouble feeding but after brake in it was fine.
They are perfect for range - bench shooting.

Oh yes -- I have Sig 556 SWAT Patrol.
