Anybody have one? Does it take standard AK Mags ?

I really like my 556R and it is very accurate but it does not take all of the AK mags. Some fit while others don't. It doesn't seem o have any issues with metal mags but it does have issues with some polymer mags. It won't take US Palm 30s. it will take some Circle 10s but not all of them. It doesn't seem ti have any problem with the cheaper mags but with the good ones it may have issues. Good luck!

They didn't have the 556R when I purchased my 556, but I am all about the 7.62/.308 round. I am beyond happy with my rifle, but would have much preferred the larger round. On that note, I have absolutely no doubt that you will love the 556R.

I bought a Gen 2 556R last August. It does take AK mags & it has become my favorite rifle! If you like AK's, you'll LOVE the 556R!

I got a Gen 2 Sig 556R in January. I really like it - it handles any ammo that I have feed it. it is accurate and is fun to shoot. But ... while the mag issued with this rifle works, it is cheap and doesn't look like it will hold up (range only). The 556R will not accept US Palm 30s (excellent mags and I had a bunch). Circle 10s are suppose to be one of the best mags but they are expensive - if you can find them - ordered 9 and only three fit the 556R. I've been shown a mod you can do on the Circle 10 and hopefully it will allow then to lock into the rifle (haven't done the mod yet because I don't want to risk messing up an expensive mag - that fits every other AK I have). All of the metal AK mags (only have a few so not areal good representation of all metal mags made) I have fit the Sig. Overall, a great rifle, but be aware of the real and potential mag issue. Even with these issues, to quote Crusader," it is my favorite rifle." Good luck!

I have Midwest Industries BUIS on mine with a Leupold VX-R 1-4x optic

I have Samson folding BUIS on my 556R and I just received my Browe BCO 4x32 LED today. This thing is AWESOME. Auto illumination brightness feature works great. Quick target acquisition in CQB through my house and longe range sighting is crystal clear. Will post up pic in a few

Sorry, can't help you with that.....

Here's some pics of the Browe installed. It comes with an ARMS #17 QD mount.

Sorry, through you were talking about the optic I just posted about.

I would snatch the SIG 556R (as long as its a Gen2) up for $1200 ish... I paid $1500 for mine and I also bought a SIG 716 from TopGunSupply.com a month ago for $2400 so $2200 is a great price as well. I personally prefer my POF USA P308 I got in February over the SIG 716 as it feels lighter.

So what do the mag wells look like on the Gen2 556R's? I remember seeing a photo here of the updated Gen1's looking like steel reinforced aluminum but mine (just arrived today 20Dec2012 BOD) doesn't look like those photos. Did Sig just change the lower to steel? The lone Tapco magazine fits super snug and upper/lower is also very tight. There is just a teeny teeny minute amount of play in the stock and the ever present fore end shake but I'm thinking an O'ring will solve that. What's up with that Dec2012 mag well?

It is hard to have an AAR report from me because I am so new to that platform. I was raised in a home with firearms with the strictest set of rules with dealing with them. In fact, I really don't like that picture of my nephew sitting on the table, and it is out of context. He had made sure the gun was cleared, had shown her various things, and had just released the catch to allow her to feel the trigger. Sitting there was an attempt to get out of the picture.

However, we never had that type of weapon or caliber in my house. It would have been totally inefficient and had zero use in my childhood. My Dad handloaded .243 ammo when reloading was unheard of and almost all the hunters in my area carried lever action 30-30s. He had long since given up trying to educate people in ballistics and all you needed to kill a sub 200 lb Panhandle whitetail at bean field ranges. In an effort to one up my Dad, like sons do, I choose the 25-06, and spent years loading the caliber.

This short, ballistically inferior 30 caliber with its rainbow trajectory and intent is foreign to me in every way. On top of that, you feed it the cheapest ammo known to man. I am like a desert dweller in Atlantis. :)

I can tell you what I do know about the weapon. I know that I took it out of the box and several people fed it 250rds of Tulammo HPs, and it didn't have a single hiccup. Not a single one through cheap 30 and 20rd plastic mags.:goodjob:

Thanks for sharing that, sure wasn't trying to put you into an uncomfortable position. My bad!

You are spot on, this is NOT a reach out and touch something round. Definitely a CQB weapon. I think our troops in the trenches of WW1 would have dramatically preferred this to the 6+ foot long sticks chambered in 30-06 they were issued!

Enjoy it and use the snot out of it. I think you own the most reliable (by far) of a somewhat finicky breed of firearms.

Not all circle tens are created equal. Some fit in my 556R & some didn't. Reason being the ones that didn't have a little more material on the front just under the latch. Easy fix with a dremel or file & now they all fit & function just fine.
