I'm partial to Aimpoint myself.

I think I would get the 557. It uses AA batteries.

If your going that route I strongly recommend Lithium AA s ONLY; as they are lighter in weight and have double

the shelf life of conventional alkaline construction. Plus No LEAKS. Don't put a $500 optic at risk to save a few $$$.

Regardless, always keep a fresh back-up set in your Bag. Be Safe, JB

About 5 years ago at a Pat Rogers Basic Carbine class. Brand new Eotech on a Crane Depot built M4. First shot at 50 yards Eotech goes out. First shot! Pat's assistant, Mike, disassemble the Eotech, stretched the battery compartment spring, and the thing worked through the rest of the 3 day class.

I've still got the Eotech, but everything I've bought since has the word Aimpoint written on it. Really prefer the dot on the Eotech, but have never had any problem with an Aimpoint. Any manufacturer can have a problem, but it seems that Eotech has had more than their share. The military has purchased bunches of them, so maybe the bugs have been worked out.

Moral of this thread. Sentence 2. "Brand new Eotech". What a dumbass. Whatever you buy, go shoot the piss out of it to try and wring out any bugs.

Just my .02 cents.

I like the Aimpoints better than the Eotec myself. I also have an ACOG. Aimpoint is just a better optic imho than the Eotec.
