just looking for advice on what type of scope people are using on their AR's. I have terrible long range vision so need something with magnification. I currently have a 3x30 scope on it but it does add a lot of weight to rig. I'm looking at the Acog's, they seem to be what I need and are lighter, but are they worth the money? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The ACOG's are definitely worth the money. I had one but it had features that just didn't work for me . I went with a Leupold VX-R 1-4X20. It gives me both short & longer range engagement options with the magnifications. Lightweight, great glass & on a American Defense QR mount, easy to take off if needed.
none of my friends that spent the money on an ACOG regret it. I like unmagnified with a magnified eyepiece I can move or remove so I don't have one but after shooting several rifles with one mounted, I'm sold. I'll be getting one in the near future for my next AR.
I have an ACOG on my M400 and its a beautiful thing. Seriously its awesome and worth the money. Although it would have been nice if my wife bought me one.
I personally can't afford an ACOG but that doesn't change the fact the one AR I shot that was running one was just jaw-droppingly amazing.
I'm a bottom feeder when it comes to optics (my AR has a Primary Arms 3x compact scope), but everything the optics "snobs" say about the ACOG? Totally true.
Wast of money for Home/Hunting/Range use. Tuff to justify when your Optic's cost more than the M400 ..LOL .If you use it everyday as a tool and your life depends on it it's one of the best choices. Kinda like the short man attitude. Primary arms are great for most. Good set of Irons are always first.
Yeah, that's kind of the direction I was heading, I always like having the best but for what I'm using it for, range shooting, I was Leary on paying that price, thanks for the feedback
I carried a ACOG for 9 tours on Patrol which was usually for some distance. But for urban assault Close quarters Eoteh EXPS3 and the new G3 Mag slapped out of the way every time. Speed you cant beat it. Saved my *** to many times to count.
LEUPOLD HAMR , best investment i ever made great eye relief also can be used for long range or cqb. If you in the market buy one. ACOGS are great but will only last for 12-15years unless you buy the new one that uses batteries for another $200.
I take it the eotech and ACOG have the same reticle?
I will pass.
Maybe I'm just used to the plex variants but I really do not like dots at all for field use. I use my AR's rifles mostly for varmint killing and dot reticles just don't cut it for me. Ditto for any other game hunting. Aside from hunting in many states and in central and southern Africa, I use our rifles all year every month and week of the year on all game and varmints in their various seasons, for stock protection, bait shooting, etc. I guess I've developed some opinions over the years that would die hard. But thanks for the link. Interesting setup!
I don't know how many different reticle options eotech or trijicon offer but the ACOG's I've used have all had the same one, a chevron with a ballistic drop compensator. and the eotechs I've fired all had a variation of the 65 moa ring with tics at 12, 3, 6, and 9 and a 1 moa dot in the middle. they have BDC options also.
