The Sig AR platform pistons are very sweet rifles.I agree putting good triggers in them, will be doing them to both of mine. I have had some others who do not own piston AR's shoot them and fall in love with them.I am still trying to find out about a barrel swap to a 20" on my 716. I read that the barrel nut is proprietary to the Sig so a barrel swap might not be possible, have tried unsuccessfully to get Sig on a land line to ask about it.If any one knows if another manufacturers 20"will fit, please advise, thank you.

sig 516

Just wondering if anyone knows if the step in the barrel of the 516 is the same as your run of the mill AR-15 (M4)? I am looking to add a suppressor to mine and haven't gotten it yet. I want to go ahead and get the paper work started now though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You are going to love it. I love my 516 and for about a month after getting it I would take it out every day just to look it over... LOL... It's a real treat to shoot too. Did have to set it to Adverse to feed .223 but I hear this is normal in the beginning until it's broken in.

Did some furniture changes on it to dress it up too. :D

It's got new furniture.

Would you mind taking a close - up of the Gas Block?

It looks a little different.

Thanks!

I'll need to get back home and make comparisons...

I'm probably wrong, but there seems to be something slightly different.

My bad, it was just the lighting in the picture and the crummy settings on the monitor at work.

They're exactly the same, no difference whatsoever.

Mine's a November 2012 model, with the revised gas regulator and still with MagPul furniture.

Mine has the Magpul grip & was supposed to have the Magpul stock too but...
I'll rock this Sig one for a while and probably go with a Magpul CTR in the near future
Ive now turned into an official ammo hound...getting family members involved too since many places have 1 or 2 box limits.

Range Report

Range Report:

Shot Winchester 5.56 55 grain FMJ. No hiccups at all. Except when i went to go look at the ejected cartridges there were dents in them. And I have no idea why. Any help would be great. Thank you................

Figured it out. Its hitting the deflector. I took a look at the deflector and it had residue of brass on it.

Interesting dings on the brass. My 516 does not do that at all. Like yours, it shoots anything, except all mine are reloads. Ah ain't rich, cain't 'ford that dollar a round stuff, ah can barely 'ford that .30 cents a round reloading cost.

There are so darn many uncontrolled variables to be considered when reading / watching about the performance of any particular firearm.
Like you, I read a lot of criticisms of the Sig 516 (and 716 and R556) and still bought all 3. All I can say is Sig makes top of the line firearms, I am very pleased with all 3.

Of the other 150 or so firearms I can honestly say that in every single case a problem could be traced to 1) the shooter, 2)the ammunition (reload) or 3) gremlins whose cause was always discovered.

My deflectors have some black electrical tape applied over them.

See if that works.
