Battle Of The Big Bore Sigs: Sig P220 vs. P227

If you wanted a big, old-school Sig Sauer but just can't be bothered with some lame old 9mm, that will inexorably lead you to deciding between the P220 vs P227. Trying to decide between these guns is actually rather difficult, because the difference between them is so slight that it's amazing that Sig actually sells both.

That said, both are excellent choices of pistol in .45 caliber. Either is a fantastic pistol and certainly one you could bet your life on. Granted, concealed carrying either of these guns...takes commitment.

P220 = 8+1

P227 = 14+1 {if you get a 14 round mag that works}

That said, yes the P227 comes with 10 round mags that fit flush, but you can get the 14 round mags. So far, of the six mags I have, none of them worked "out of the box" (or rather the bag they came in). Only changing the mag spring made the one I got with the pistol work and that prevented loading 14 rounds - only 13 fit now. I have yet to put the springs in the other mags.

But still 14+1 rounds is a significant difference. I have not handled a P220, but I would guess the grip width (side to side) is thicker on the P227.

Now if SIG would just make the same pistols in .460 Rowland
