Irony

The debate about the price of ammo has captured my thoughts for the past couple of weeks. I find it interesting how people have reacted to what is basically a simple supply and demand issue.

There really is no ammo 'crisis'. The demand is outstripping the ability of manufacturers and distributors to keep product on the shelves. Due to a surge in gun sales and people hoarding because they anticipate bad things to come. That we may have to start shooting each other. Which by itself is a ridiculous prophesy.

I'm also fascinated by the fact that people get jacked up when other people are paying too much for something. Putting ammo aside, consider the following:

  • I'm angry that my 401k has nearly doubled in the past ten years. I hate it when my money grows because investors are bidding up price of the stocks held in my retirement account.
  • I bought a 70's muscle car nobody wanted in 1980 for $3500 and put it in storage. Now it's worth $350,000. There should be a law preventing this. The only ethical thing for me to do is sell it for $3000.
  • I invested $5000 in Microsoft in 1986, buying 238 shares at the IPO price. After the splits that's now 68,544 shares. About ten million dollars at today's share price. This is a travesty. What was I thinking.
The irony is many of the same people become agitated at the mere prospect of the government interfering with their lives. Making rules, over regulating, infringing on rights they hold sacred. Yet when normal supply and demand market forces come into play, some want enforcement.

As Spock would say, "Illogical"

What a stupid poll.

There are plenty of gun shops and gun departments NOT price gouging on ammo EVEN NOW, and those are the businesses to spend money with.

Complaining about price gouging isn't an equivalent to 'liking regulation and socialism'...

In fact, complaining about price gouging isn't, for example, any different than expressing "a like for kydex and a dislike of leather".

ETA: Admit that this poll is just another line of attack against member "Oldsalt", who had the 'nerve' to complain about price gouging- how dare he!

If you are over paying for ammo, you have no one to blame but yourself.

The discussion started with member "Oldsalt", and I don't remember him or anyone else saying they chose to PAY those gouged prices. The topic is about people not liking price gouging, and a couple of amoral individuals who continue to bash him.

I view this as a "self-correcting issue" - Unethical vendors (who buy in bulk and sell at an exorbitant price) will see their business dry-up as customers take their money elsewhere.
