I have some PPU in .45acp and it isn't very accurate, it is the least accurate ammo I have used. One of my more experinced shooting buddies though says if you use PPU make sure you get something favored in their country because .45acp is new to them and not something they use or care about. If he is right you shouldn't have any problems with the 9mm ammo.
I guess the same could be said for every ammo manufacturer but when I used PMC in .45acp it was pretty good but not as good as Federal brand.
I did pick up some PMC in 9mm and it was crazy accurate but haven't tried PPU in 9mm.
I have about 750 rounds of PPU at home. I have yet to shoot any of it, because I just haven't had time... The previous poster was correct: PPU is sold at Academy under the "Monarch" brand. I did a little research, and most of the feedback I've read about it has been good. Most people seem to like it. I'm going to judge for myself, but honestly, most factory 9mm ammo will be fine for target practice (if that's what you're using it for). People often talk about how "dirty" one brand of ammo is compared to another, but if you clean your firearm after every trip to the range (which I highly recommend), it really makes no difference. Enjoy!
I can't confirm or refute whether PPU and Monarch are from the same manufacturer. This just shows they use the same brass. Similar to Starline brass being used by domestic manufacturers. Several cartridge assemblers use Starline brass but use different components.
Given the choice of shooting the PPU or nothing, I know what I would do. I have shot PPU ammo in a few different calibers. It all worked fine. Would I use it for defense, no. If I was a competitive shooter, probably wouldn't use it for that either. But for practice/range ammo, just fine.
PPU makes some good stuff - especially for oddball C&R calibers. However, some of their loadings can be considered a tad "hot" compared to our own milder variety of Remington or Federal, especially for 8mm Mauser ammo.
That being said, I love every PPU made ammo I've used so far...
I had some problems with ppu in .40 S&W earlier this year. Mainly issues with chambering. I couldn't get a full mag through it without an issue. Although I suspect this could be due to the fact that they were some of my first rounds through a brand new SIG P229R? I have since taken it out with PMC ammo and it seems to do slightly better, however I still have yet to take it out to the range and not encounter some sort of chambering issue. I think its getting better as I put rounds through it though..
Geez thanks Mickey. That is probably the only common ammo that we have available at our part of the planet. A lot of folks here do not know the details as the packaging is really different. Would appreciate it if you could also share details such as velocity, energy, + P status and any other details which you're aware of. For me it's like hitting a jackpot
It doesn't say anything on the box. It only states that these cartridge are loaded to military velocity and pressure which is higher than 9mm Luger cartridge. Average pressure is 10% higher than industry standard pressure for 9mm luger
Plus if the pressure is higher than standard ammo you reckon it is safe for the P226 to handle such ammo for prolonged periods ? I am thinking to make this ammo my standard carry ammo and ofcourse will practice with it at the range.
I've shot around 500 rds on my MK25 without any issues and its great. Recoil is minimal and I got this from academy @$15.99 per box of 50. It comes every once in awhile.
Oh no doubt on their reliability but I was talking in terms of barrel life in the long run.
