511 Jean FAIL!

I'm so bummed out. I love my 511 jeans as they fit and function perfect! BUT, they bleed dye on everything! And to boot, the dye is causing me to break out in rashes. Im soooo bummed. I got a few pair recently and actually had to go to the doctor due to a nasty rash. After my doctor suggested, I put my LEE and Wranglers back into use and the problem went away. Soo...... does anyone else have this problem?

My wifes letter seat in her truck tint blue badly after I sit in it for a few hours....... ive tried washing in hot water etc........ not sure what else to. Damn.

I have not. I think its me. Just a reaction, im probably allergic etc. Maybe I will and see what they say. Just was wondering if anyone else had the issue. Its just their jeans....... I have other pants and items from them with no trouble over the years.

I hope no one thinks I'm bashing them, im not. I love their stuff and own a ton.... from plate carriers to polo shirts. Just read bumming.. ha

I'd contact them. Perhaps they had a batch that missed something during the dyeing process.

I love 5.11 stuff. They have a factory store right by where I work.

Dye not set if leaving on car seat. Also, if on skin, so reaction.
Sometimes, soak in Cold Water for 24 hrs. may set the dye. Worth a try.
If dye bleeds onto a wet paper towel after item drys, did not set.
There are multiple reasons why happening.
Generally, dark colors should be washed in cold water without harsh detergent.

Helpful article.

They were likely made to do this. If they were advertised as “raw denim” then for sure. The dye transfer will slow down but it could take a long time and nothing will stop it. Leather cleaner should take it off the car seats. It is desirable to people that want jeans that fade quickly. The troublesome part is that you got a rash from them. They may make the same pants in a different fabric that will work for you. They will make it right for you one way or the other if they want to keep you as a customer.

Back in the 40s and 50s when i wore Levis or Wranglers, My Mother used to soak them in Salt Water overnight before She washed them for the first time.
red is another color that will run easily

Are you talking about Levi 511 jeans or 5.11 Tactical jeans? I was thinking Levi’s, but this thread took a different turn.

I like the fit of Wrangler retro boot cut, but the denim is nowhere near as durable as the Levi’s I used to wear.

We use to wash new jeans adding some white vinegar to the wash water to set the color.
Let the washer fill up with water then add about a cup of vinegar.
