Water Moccasin

They sure are hard to shoot with a pistol at 25 yards while swimming.

Went to feed the fish in our 2 acre pond yesterday and there is a moccasin swimming across. I had my Cajunized CZ 75 compact and started shooting at about 25 yards. Some of the shots were close enough to momentarily stun him.

after 12 shots he was hurting and drew up in full strike position with his mouth open floating on the water at about 20 yards. Shot 13 missed but shot 14 (my last)blew him about 4 feet up and 10 feet over where he promptly sank.

I sure like Liberty Civil Defense ammo

Was there anything around to use as a rest ?
A snake at 25 yards is quite a shot. Shotgun is better for it.

22 magnum/380 for hd/sd are why my choice is g3 g30.

shot placement is needed to stop the threat + if you don't stop the threat, think about this moccasin heading for you!

We go to the pond every day. I always have a pistol on my side but don't want to grab a shotgun every time. Last year i shot 3 moccasins. So far this year i've shot 1 and my wife shot 1.

Often if you shoot at them they will come after you so subsequent shots are closer and far more intense / exciting.

Hell, you don't even need to shoot at 'em to wee wee them off. All you have to do is look at 'em cross eyed and they come right after you. And, they are surprisingly fast, too ... the little [email protected]$!

My experience shooting Water Moccasins with a 357sig round is that you don't have to hit them, just get close. The concussion either kills or stuns them.

A grounds keeper at a near by golf course claims that they will often chase after the mower. He carries a "Judge" loaded with .410 shot to handle the situation.

I have to admit, my first thought was, "Why in the world would he go swimming with a moc in the water and then try to shoot it?".

There is a .410 called a Snake Charmer. I shot one once at an NRA class. It's a fun little shotgun.

My experience with snakes in water is hitting them and the pistol round pushes them underwater and they swim off. But if they craw out on a rocky bank the lead splatter from even a near miss does the trick.
