2 GOP state senators sworn in after Colo. recalls

DENVER (AP) — Two Republicans were sworn in Thursday to replace the Colorado Senate Democrats they defeated in historic recalls over new gun restrictions.

Former Colorado Springs CouncilmanBernie Herpin and retired Pueblo police officer George Rivera took the oath of office in front of a Senate packed with Republican lawmakers and other supporters in the gallery. They were greeted with loud cheers and applause.

Herpin said in his opening speech that he would "never forget the lesson of this summer."

"We serve at the pleasure of those we represent," he said.

This is excellent news for the citizens of Colorado, but my question is WILL they be able to repeal the ridiculous gun laws that were passed? If not, all of this in my opinion, was a waste of time.

What gets me, is that there are so many problems that need action, and some politicians want to focus on gun control. There are plenty of gun laws that aren't enforced, and would be effective against criminals if they were enforced. They claim they are doing it to "protect the public", but what they fail to understand is that they are only protecting the criminals with illegal firearms.
Some state politicians are now even wanting to go after hunting firearms. Anything with a detachable magazine and fires a centerfire cartridge, but they also claim they aren't going after hunting firearms.
The biggest threat to legal firearms owners isn't at the federal level, it's at the state level. If enough states push through gun control laws then the federal level will also push through gun control laws claiming it's what the people in the states are demanding.

It's definitely NOT a waste of time. These arrogant pieces of excrement need to be held accountable and removed from office for ignoring the will of the people they are supposed to represent (not to mention ignoring the Constitution of the United States). They do not represent Bloomberg! They do not represent the Newtown parents! They do not represent Obama! The people need to send a loud and clear message that this will not be tolerated.

My great fear is that, here in the "Old Dominion," Billy Clinton's hack, Terry McAuliffe, will win the governor's race. That will spell disaster for the 2nd Amendment in our state. Again, NJ and VA are the bell weathers. We need everyone's hopes and prayers.

I share the same concern as you. Let's hope Cuccinelli wins. He is being badly outspent by that POS McAuliffe. Also, thanks to the overwhelming blame game by the Lame Street Media, the Government Shut Down is not helping the Republicans in VA. Timing is just bad.

I agree ALL liberals should be thrown out of office! My point is that yes, these recalled Senators are out of a job, but the damage has been done unless the laws are repealed. They may have been recalled, but the laws are still in place and they will get PAID FOR LIFE! They're still giving Colorado the middle finger! I guess time will tell.

If you want to get some more of the dirt on these crummy politics check out a Denver radio station. A guy named Peter Boyels has morning radio program where he is all over the last and present recall, as well as other good stuff. You can listen on the web at,

I think this is a good thing. The other Politicians will take notice, at least for a short while. You are correct however, time will tell...
