At least the Army got smart and placed a huge order with Sig to replace the Beretta M-9.

Protest is normal for Glock.
They have been fighting a uphill battle since the 1980s. First the Post says "They don't show up on X-Rays" which was never retracted, then the "Gidaffe bought 2,000 to give to terrorists" (Which was also false), then a whole bunch of writers saying they were unsafe.

It wasn't until NYPD bought them as replacements for the aging .38s that things started to change.

The Glock is probably the best soldier proof weapon out there. It is a weapon for Combat, and not nearly as pretty as the SIG's are. I like the Sigs. I own enough of them. But for the Grunt in the Dirt, I think the glock is probably a better choice.

No Pistol is Soldier Proof. No pistol is COP Proof (We see enough of that every day). But for the average soldier who needs a 10 foot person stopper, the Glock 22 is a good combo. Shame that the army will never go for it.

Was it all about that frame mounted safety?

Maybe this will help them meet the demand for the P320!

I used to head up RFP teams for various Fed contracts. Appeals are the norm for contracts like this sidearm buy. There are lots of non compete contracts too and then, unfortunately, the ones that always seem to go the way of the incumbent. A handgun buy should, in a perfect world, be a commercial off the shelf effort but instead they went the torturous and cumbersome procurement route. Took a long time. Sig deserved to win though and I actually like Glocks. They wanted a reliable company that had a proven winner in modular designed handgun. There was probably intense pressure on a primarily US based manufacturing and support structure to boot. I just hope Sig expands enough to support the contract requirements and also us little guys.
