Red dot advice

I have a P210 midnight. Thinking about putting a red dot on it. Looks like AC is the only one that makes a mount for it. Wanting a Doctor Optic. Does Sig have any mounts or optics that will work. Any cons to mounting a red dot on this pistol.

I would reach out to Mark Housel at L and M Precision or The Sig Armorer and ask them about milling for a red dot. Mounts cause unnecessary offset if the slide can be milled. AFAIK Sig does not offer a mounting solution. You also may want to consider other brands of red dots, such as Holosun or Trijicon.

I mounted Vortex Optics Venom red dots on two P210As using the Armory Craft Mounts, and had no trouble at all; in fact, prior to that I mounted Docter red dots on the same pistols using the same AC mounts. I can recommend their use without reservation.

FYI, a lot of pistols that have red dots mounted on them have little to no chance of co-witnessing the dot and sight blades. This is due to the adapter plates that are normally required. In essence you are putting a spacer between the pistol and the red dot so it makes it more difficult if not impossible to co-witness the dot and sights. Couple this with the fact the adapter plates may or may not be level to begin with and it can really mess things up. I run several red dots on my pistols and the easiest ones to "see" thru are those that are machined into the slide, but I certainly would not machine the slide on either of my P210's to do this. I really like having red dots on my pistols, but it almost always takes me a few shots to become accustomed to the angle of the red dot on that specific pistol. Just remember the higher up you take a red dot the greater the angle to co-witness your sights. At this point I don't even worry about using the factory sights with my red dot equipped pistols.

And this is how it’s supposed to be for any red dot equipped pistols. Co-witnessing is useless. Instead of wasting time chasing the appropriate sights to co-witness, use that time to dry fire to establish your index. Doing this will help in getting to the same point of aim every time the gun is drawn.

Too much YouTube tactical timmies is really getting bad. New red dot shooters are being steered to the wrong path of learning to shoot with a red dot.

Was shooting at the range today, all of a sudden the armory craft converter with the venom ref dot flies off the pistol. I pick it up and see the screw got broken. Not sure if the cartridge hit it, was looking at the target. Dang!

I've got a P210 Midnight Supertarget myself, and NO WAY would I ever send that pistol off to have any millwork done on it.

I'd rather buy a new P210 target to chop up. I've been in the same quandary over optics for mine.

Optics-wise, you should go look up Sage Dynamics on Youtube, and then look at the 508T or 509T from Holosun. Phenominal optics. I use Sig Romeo One's on my competition guns - but I use Holosun on my carry or home-defense guns. I personally really like the Holosun 508T green dot. Their 509T is what I want on my next P210.

The broken screw sucks. I just put an EGW mount on mine and it uses the roll pin from the sight, the screw just keeps it from sliding or moving.
All I had was an OLD doctor sight with scratched lenses. I shot some one ragged hole 5 shot groups at 15 yards with 2 kinds of ammo. Still working on it.

If you have a new pin, I am assuming you should be okay. I did not realize it is possible to buy a new pin! Though, they are probably tested for the weight of the rear sight - the venom red dot plus the plate is much heavier setup.

I put an OLD Doctor sight on my P210. I used a second hand EGW mount. It seems to work well. I zeroed it to 25 yards. Shot a match last night. All shots were going high. I grabbed the sight and it was loose. I had used blue lock-tite on the screws. It was only the screws that mount the sight to the adapter. This time I used my $400.00 inch pound torque wrench to 20 inch pounds. We will see.

The EGW mount is nice, I even had to tap it into place before I could insert the roll pin and screw.

Still will probably get the slide milled. Trigger is better than my 1911.
