P238 Sport 12 Magazine hitting release

Hello,

I just bough the P238 Sport 12 and when I went to pick it up at the Gun Range I noticed the magazine will not insert completely unless I smack it in. It looks like it is snagging halfway. It seems like the release button. If I barely press the release button it goes right in. If I smack it in it goes in also. Is it normal to get caught up by the release button half way up? Disappointing to see this problem and I haven't even fired it yet.:( Does anyone have a suggestion or fix? I have to wait until Monday to speak with someone at Sig.

During normal insertion of a magazine, as top right corner of the mag tube reaches the mag catch it pushes the mag catch to the right and then, as the slot in the mag tube reaches the mag catch, the mag catch snaps back to the left to engage the slot and hold the mag in the pistol.

There will be resistance when the mag tube is pushing the mag catch to the right. In my experience, the resistance felt on a single stack mag is a bit greater than what is felt on a double stack mag. I think this is because the angle stamped into the single stack mag tube is typically steeper and therefore has less leverage to overcome the mag catch spring tension compared to the typical double stack mag.

Thank you so much for your response! It seems what you are describing is exactly what is happening. So is this normal for this brand new gun? I don't find anyone describing this problem anywhere on the internet so this leads me to believe it is not normal. I'm going to shoot it today since I already had a date with some friends but I will still contact Sig Monday.

I was thinking about removing and reinstalling the catch to see if maybe the cam pin is not completely turned and the catch is not staying in the proper position causing it to impact the mag.

I will re-post my results, what ever it may be. I am still disappointed with Sig. I guess I need to take it with a grain of salt. To get a perfect gun its a matter of luck and or pay 1000+ for a well crafted and properly QC'd weapon. Everything else is just good or bad luck with how most weapons now days are just assembly line products.

I've had one P238 and three P938s and they all had the same feel when inserting a mag; increase resistance as the mag tube contacts the mag catch and then pushes it to the side.

I believe it is common to the design and not a defect which may be why you aren't finding any complaints about it on the interweb.

You are correct. I have two guns and they don't do that.Sorry my bad. I just found out from the range it is normal. I guess I should have researched more before I wrote. Heck, it may have been stated in the manual!!

Well it shot very well and felt really nice to shoot. I love it! I just gotta get use to the mag insertion.

Thanks everyone!
