938 guide rod slant

Hi I just got my 938 and have taken it down and noticed that the guide rod and spring were slanted in the slide. I took the rod out and inspected it and it definitely has a slanted head piece. Is this the design of the rod or is it a flawed rod. I havent taken the 938 to the range yet to see if it matters. I just thought some insight from the forum would help.

Might you have pushed against the rod/spring assembly when removing the slide?

There is considerable lateral play room, especially in the guide rod, when the slide is off. When reassembling, center things up. Once the slide is back on the frame, it'll stay straight.

938 Owner pro-tip....

Keep the shipping box.

:D

One of many design flaws, the two-piece guide MIM guide rod is certainly a major one. I bet whatever third-party parts supplier supplied that crooked one had to crank down so hard that they fractured the fitting a bit.

Sweet QC eh? I hope the military knows what they're getting into.

Thats nice to hear after reading so much negative remarks about Sig's customer service. I've never had a problem with my guide rod...yet. I see an aftermarket one piece rod has become available now, that might be the first aftermarket part I buy for a Sig after almost 30 years.

So about 2 months ago my guide rod broke and sheared clean at the sleeve where the 2 parts attach. My theory was that the guide rod must have canted and caught the inner lip of the guide rod opening as there couldn't possibly be any other explanation. The crazy part is I didn't realize it had failed until I got home to clean it and the spring was mangled on the inside as the gun continued functioning through the range session. It's possible it happened on the last shot but not likely. Sig sent me a new guide rod.
