I have a p320C RX and really enjoy it. So much so, I am thinking I would put a RDS on each of my handguns.

My EDC is a P365 in a Tier 1 Axis Elite and I am very happy with. Living in San Antonio, TX our winter (wearing a coat) is only a couple days out of the year. I have no intentions of carrying my P320C RX.

I am interested in putting g a RDS on my P365. Aside from the inability to pocket carry, are there any reasons why it would shouldn’t be recommended for a micro-compact?

Up to this point in my carrying career, I haven’t ever pocket carried nor do I have any desire to. I simply don’t like stuff in my pockets.

I have also thought of purchasing the P365XL RX and swapping out the barrels.

Any thoughts/recommendations to one option versus the other?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

I would suggest you begin your quest by seeking both models, if possible, side by side, to compare. Local gun shops, gun shows, indoor ranges, and big box stores abound in the SA area. This is just my personal opinion, but I believe the distance on a pistol that makes it difficult or uncomfortable to conceal IWB, is the overall height from from the mag butt plate to the top of the rear (red dot) sight. For me, the extra barrel/slide length Is not a problem for IWB carry. YMMV. Good luck in your search.

you can’t put a p365 barrel in an XL slide because the XL slide is longer than the 365 barrel. I’m actually really confused because if you didn’t know that already why would you want to swap barrels?

Buy the p365XL RZ and then you'll enjoy the Red Dot equipped slide that you can also put on your p365... AND you'll enjoy the full modularity between those two 365 model pistols.

Another consideration.......A Red Dot negates any benefit from the XL's longer sight radius; the short slide can be milled for a red dot, and less length and height is just that much easier to conceal. JMO

I just had my short slide milled by Fabricated Arms in front of the rear sight with the NEW cut that will fit all the micro dots: R Zero, HS 407K/507K and Shield. $100 plus I had them do a Patina Cerakote while it was there to hide the scuffs and nicks in my 2 year old P365 slide.

There are some new Kydex holsters that have a built-in shroud to cover the optic for EDC.

Whatever way you go, Red Dots are just faster and more accurate once you get past the learning curve. With a P320c RX you're already there.
The P365 optic-equipped will be it's little brother.

Correction! I left out ‘slide’ in my original post. My apologies.

I have heard of people placing the P365XL slide and barrel on the P365 frame. Naturally, I haven’t so as I don’t have the P365XL.

Curious which option would be better:
Option 1:
Milling the P365 slide and adding a Romeo Zero
Option 2:
purchasing the P365XL and swapping the slide and barrel?

Option 1 provides for a smaller package
Option 2 gives you 2 different guns if you want to switch back and forth from

Unfortunately, I didn’t reply to your actual post. Please see my response above

Thank you. Great input. Up to this point, all of my research has been online and YouTube videos. I’ll definitely take my Tier 1 holster in to look at how the 2 will sit and issues that might arise.

Thanks again!

Thank you! I am definitely seeing how that could be a great advantage. Modularity was one exact detail that made me really love the P320 when they originally came out.

Your recommendation would give me that option for my P365.

Great input!

The P365XL RX does make the whole situation easier. Allows the ability to have 2 different guns which is always a win.

However, I really do like the smaller package which I fell in love with in the first place.

Tough decision but I greatly appreciate your input!

I also have the P365XL with 6moa Romeo Zero. I love the easy grip/slide interchangeability too.
The R Zero is a step in the right direction. Much better than the Shield IMHO especially for the money, but it has a plastic lens that scratches easily and the tiny light adjustment is hard to reach.

I would be remiss if I didn't ask if you've looked at the Holosun 407K or 507K optic for about the same cost. Glass lens, motion on-off, easier light adjustment, same footprint??

Just say'in

If you decide you definitely prefer one pistol configuration much better than another, you can always sell the extra pistol and get back some of that money.

Both the Romeo Zero and the Shield Sights SMSc and RMSc fit the p365XL.

As for the hol(o)sun optics- avoid them at all costs because they're a communist china owned company and china is fighting an unconventional war against us (even before their Wuhan pandemic), so the Feds may block chinese goods as part of a trade war, which would make getting parts for the chinese owned hol(o)sun optics nearly impossible.

Also, the hol(o)sun models meant for the p365/XL aren't even readily available yet and the only info their fans have to go on is "low price and marketing cliams".

Hi, from another San Antonian.

I have 2 P365s and have been looking at both options as well.

Since I already own two, and think I'm going to have one P365 slide milled.
The cost to mill a slide is only about $100.

I love the way they shoot, handle, and are concealable.

I have already put an MCarbo spring kit, polished the trigger bar and some other areas, replaced the trigger with a Sig flat one and added a Manual Safety to the one that didn't have it...

At this point, I have a Halosun HS407A3 that I bought a little over a month ago. I believe the mounting is the same as the HS407X, so am planning on using it...

Good luck on your decision.

Blessings,
DocS

IMHO why put a red dot on a sub compact that is used for defense. If, heaven forbid, you have to use your weapon to defend yourself, I don't think you will have time to line up the red dot as you will be shooting quickly. Won't be a pocket carry either with a red dot.

I personally only use a red dot (Holsun) on my competition 22 that I use for Bullseye.

Just stop.

Mill the 365 or maybe Sig will offer a dot ready gun/slide in the future, who knows, but dots are the future.
