P227 sas gen 2 v p229 sas gen 2

Sigs website says the p227sas gen 2 is lighter than the p229 sas gen 2. Why is this? Would the .45 not be heavier? The site also lists the p229 sas gen 2 as having a mag capacity of 13 in 9mm. Is this true? Why not 15?

The gun (P229 SAS) holds 15 rounds if legal in your locale. It's designed around P229-1 mags. I carry both of these and weight seems about even.

My 229 SAS in 40 is 1/4 ounce heavier then my 227 SAS (empty). Both of these have G10 grips.
All my 229 9 mags are 15 round.

Even loaded, carrying 10 rounds of .45 vs. 15 rounds of 9mm, you won't notice much difference.

The M11-A1 is almost a 229 SAS (no rail) and I carry it and my 227 SAS Carry in the same holster interchangeably. Can't tell the difference.

The 45 is lighter because the bullet is bigger. Therefore, slightly more material is taken out of the barrel, making it a tad lighter. This of course, all things being equal elsewhere.

Good question.

I would call SIG Customer Service for a definitive answer.

Sig has not been known to have correct specs on their site. It has the M11 as the same weight as the P229 at 32 oz with empty magazine. Actual weight of the M11 with empty mag is more like 29.5ish oz.

If you look at the P229 SAS and the Enhanced Elite thy both show 32 oz, which is highly unlikely as the Enhanced Elite has more frame material in the beavertail and rail and the SAS has less material in the slide due to the melt. They also have the .40 and .357 as the same as the 9mm. It's all wacky as hell.

2.6 oz difference. No biggie. Thanks for the data, Jon!
