Buy the extreme and swap out the grips to the E2's

LiberalInsurgent, it looks as if Dismas316 hit the jackpot. For what the E2 kit would cost, you could sell the G-10 grips easily to recoup the cost.

Hi. I just picked up a brand new 229R in .40, with the E2 grips. They aren't my favorite so if you do get the gun you want, and it does not have E2s, then maybe we could do some horse trading...

I would counsel get the extreme and try the G10s before swapping.
I think they are worlds better than the E2s.
All personal preference though.

Enjoy what you end up with, and pics count.
