Hello. I have bought a new german Sig Sauer P226 (I am from Spain, here in Europe all the Sigs are german), and comes with the hooked hammer of the old P6

What do you think? Have you ever seen this?

I have never seen a hooked hammer on a 226, only the P6. The practice of putting hooked hammers on P6's for issued pistols was to serve as an indicator that the gun was dropped or received a blow to the hammer area. If the hook was damaged then an inspection would be in order to see if there was any real damage to the firearm. If that is the original hammer and then it may have been an issued weapon at some point, or possibly an overrun from a contract? Seems odd that the pistol has a rail with a hooked hammer. I was not aware that Sig was still using the hooked hammers.

Very interesting, the new German made P226 for the American market uses the regular style hammer:

It has come to my attention that similarly configured pistols are seen in Sweden as issued weapons. Apparently the hooked hammer is still used for the same reason in some contracts.

el comediante, you've got yourself a fine pistol!

I've never seen one of those hammers on any of my Sig's.

And 2 or 3 of my Sig's are German.

Yes, I think my Sig has been made for the european police, and the importer in Spain for the civilian market (that here is very little) brings some of the lot.

Regards

I have never seen the hooked hammer on a 226, but it's a fine looking Sig and I would love to have one just like it.

I'd been around the,"standard" hammer for so long before seeing the hooked hammer that it still seems a little odd to me and always draws my eye to it. I'm sure its fine, just not used to it on that model.

I wonder, do you have to use rounds with lighter primers because of the lighter hammer?

I was told by a Sig Armourer that the European Sig's have those hammers in order to tell if they have been dropped on the hammer.

If they see the "hook" has been flatened (dropped) then they know to have them worked on.
