New to me, P229 in 40 S&W
I posted this in another part of this site, as a reply to a question. But I thought that I'd throw it out here too.
I just picked this up today! I asked if he would consider $500...he said he would throw in three boxes of factory ammo. SOLD!
It is from '96/'97, s/n AF24xxx
The trigger reset is great! Almost as short as my P220 Elite w/SRT!
Now I just need a few mags and a 357 barrel. Heck, maybe a 9mm barrel too.
I am looking at some G10 stocks. Anything special about the fitment for the older Sigs? Will the E2 grips fit?
I mentioned that the reset was almost as short as mt P220 w/SRT. That, is not true. I just got a little crazy in my liking of the very smooth trigger on this P229. I went and tried them side x side, not the same as far as reset goes. But still, very nice.
The funny thing is, I really commited to this purchase (I've know about it for over a month) because at a PPC match this past weekend, there was a guy selling a boat load of Safariland level II holsters for the P228/P229...for $2.00 each. I bought two, and several Safariland mag holders. So, for my $12 investment, I needed a pistol to fit them.
The internals look like they belong to a brand new gun! Really is "Like new."
I will get some decent pics soon. The included pic was from the email ad for the gun.
I forgot to mention, my mags are marked "Made in Germany". The frame is marked "Frame-P229-Made in Germany".

Very nice catch. The 40's seem to be going for less than others, but I picked up a P229 in 357 for $575 used and a new Carry 9mm for $800.
Maybe we are seeing some price recovery....
Better sell my P220 before it starts to drop too much!

Good on YOU!
To my way of thinking, you got one of the "good ones". If you haven't shot a P229 in 40, you might try it before ordering the Sig 357 barrel. I have two of them for my P229 and have shot maybe 50 rounds off that in the last 5 years. I like 40!
I have three of those P229s my own self! '96 ($449) my main carry gun, '99 ($600 w/extra 357 brl and 5 mags), and purchased just last week, a 2003 in factory satin nickel ($625 . . . factory sent them out to Robar for plating and then finished assembly from what I understand) very pretty. I'm currently doing an action job on the nickel, though I probably won't carry it. The first two are ex-LEO's with very low wear, no dings or scratched, the nickel is like NIB save for a faint smiley.
And my 4th P229 has a rail, bedtime gun:

As far as the 357 barrel goes, I probably won't do it. It was just a thought. I have an XD in 357 which is actually pretty nice...if you don't mind that crazy, unnecessary grip safety. And I also have a Glock 22 w/the 357 conversion barrel. As I write this, my new P239 SAS in 357 is waiting at my FFL...(and a new FNX 45 Tac will be there on Tuesday...Holy Moly!)
So, that may just be enough 357 Sig setups. I am seriously considering a 9mm conversion though.
I really need to get some good pics before I shoot it. You can't believe the great condition it is in.

I love legacy slides! I'm not a fan of 357 Sig (I was issued one for twelve years), the recoil isn't bad but the noise and muzzle blast will beat you up after a day of shooting indoors. That being said, you use the same mags and recoil springs so why not get a 357 barrel. It is a cool round to shoot.

7 in stock. I'm thinking about getting one myself.
If the "new to you" 229 hasn't been registered before, you can register it with SIG and get a 20% discount code.
